I mean… there are many people, who had their relatives eaten by a titan, but being the one, who has their mom alive there, but as a titan and you cannot do anything about it, but you know she is still “alive”. Regarding the opening... I had the same reaction as you. It feels so out of nowhere and also it is the first opening, which wasn't done by Linked Horizon, so it feels so different and maybe for this show even "weird" at this point. After finishing this first part of season 3, I kind of understand why they chose this type of opening, it fits the idea of this arc being so different than the previous ones. But I don't know... I am not into this opening as I am into the other ones. I hope this idea of mine won’t spoil anything… it’s about mine naming and sorting “phases” of Shingeki no Kyojin, but just in case... I am mentioning the word SPOILER: First phase is about people against titans. Then we got into the second phase, where it is about titans against titans. The third phase is about people against people and the fourth phase is basically Eren against the world. And although there will be titan against titan fights, I can say we are entering the third phase of people against people...
