Connor (Cyndr)

The problem with Geto's logic and his specific decision is that he generalizes his opponent to an entire population regardless of how complicit they are in the problem. He killed his parents because "they can't be the exception" but that's the problem. Genocide is an easy answer but never the right answer because it assigns the blame not based on choices and actions but on identity. These people don't want to create curses 99% of the time, it's a passive effect. I started writing this before the discussion was finished, so my stance was "I can empathize with Geto's trauma and his goals, but I could never agree with his solution" and yeah PD nails it in similar words. There is no world where Geto's plan is ok, and it's a shame he was driven to that point because maybe he could have started towards a better solution if his views weren't so molded by personal experience. But hey, that's what makes a fantastic and interesting villain!

Mystical Snow

Geto’s descent is so tragic. Much like PD I can emphasize with him and I understand why he came to the conclusion he did. The context to Geto and Gojo’s relationship is also so thought inducing but terribly sad. That last conversation between them hurt to watch because you could clearly see just how much both of them had changed and clearly grew apart. On top of the experiences Geto went through, the loneliness also definitely attributed to it as well. I think that might be the thing Gojo regrets the most. It’s so interesting just how much this moment impacted Gojo and how he chose to live his life after this. This is probably why he nurtures and encourages such strong bonds in his students now, to prevent another Geto. He wants his students to grow strong together and trust each other, so that his mistakes won’t be repeated. This is truly where their lives diverged, yet they both took on the burden of saving the world and would essentially dedicate themselves to their ideals, both carrying heavy responsibilities. And it’s kind of heartbreaking to imagine what could have been.

I've watched this episode at least three times and I still get goosebumps. This really was a slow descent into madness for Geto which makes it so believable that he made a complete 180 shift in his ideals from episode 1. This is one year after the death of the star plasma. So one year of being haunted by the sound of the crowd clapping as he constantly questions his purpose. Also, Gojo getting so much stronger than him and the two doing more solo missions definitely made it worse. If he was still working with his best friend maybe it wouldn't have come to this. After all, he was usually the more levelheaded of the two. And then Haibara's death while fighting a powerful deity curse. Even if you don't agree with him you can see his reasoning. I read a comment somewhere where someone noticed that during his talk with Yuki, she mentions that Geto has two choices. One hating all non-sorcerers (as she says this she points to a brightly lit hallway with a door and an exit sign) and then two rejecting that hatred (points to a dimly lit hallway with no visible end). And then the crowd clapping/ sound of rain, so many levels to that whole scene. Mind officially blown. Ohh and side note don't know if Yuki's 'What kinda girls are you into?" question rung a bell but she's Todo's mentor lol.

i would usually comment about the reaction but i'm extremely devastated rn and it's also jujutsu kaisen related :))))) i beg u pd and blaire, do NOT search jujutsu kaisen or any character from the show on any social media rn, you can get spoilers from the most recent manga chapter, this may sound dramatic but ppl are going to be talking about this without even care to spoil someone and omg i truly don't want ya'll to get spoiled😭 sorry making it sound like it's the end of the frikin world or something lmaoooo

your discussion at the end about geto is really how i feel about him as well. it's just so so tragic, but you can really see the reasoning behind his decisions and why gojo doesn't do anything about him, even ten years down the line until the movie, at which point he has to. i think this is probably one of my favourite episodes of jjk so far, the tension and the emotion that builds up is just so crazy. you can really feel how everything has built up to this point of no return, and the episode is almost haunted with this unsettling feeling of tension. it's truly so crazy.

Thank you for mentioning this, my ex and I often watch some episodes together even though I am all caught up on the manga, but it irritates me every time he says he saw a spoiler on Facebook while scrolling down his timeline, some people really don't care about ruining the watch/read experience for others.

The clapping sound in the back of geto mind is soo good. it's actually always playing whenever he's having those confused thoughts and when he's still fighting the lust to just get rid of (monkeys). and they stop when he has finally a clear idea he focused on. also the clapping is from that cult when they were clapping while they're taking the little girl. it was traumatizing to him that it became the background noise to his blurry thoughts about genocide
