if you're interested, i'd love seeing your reaction to blackpink's coachella headliner stage from this year too!

Lovestruck ep is one of the best releases this year

One thing that has worked and I think really nailed with Kep1er variety is Kep1erving: Exchange Roommate !! There is a clear increase in video quality and bc they’re modeling it after an existing dating reality show (exchange) that they have fun leaning in and away from it which provides a clear, dedicated direction + I think there is much better editing that capitalizes on the magic, meme worthy moments;I understand being overwhelmed by content so just as a recommendation to keplians or people who want to get into into Kep1er it’s a good way in!! PLEASE SUPPORT MY GIRLS WAKEONE IS DROPPING THE BALL

i had to pause to come here and comment cuz omg pd, the thing about not really noticing something about a song/someone’s singing until you get to know them is so relatable for me. i have a deeper appreciation for kpop songs when i know the group. maybe it’s cuz i’m more familiar with their voices or can appreciate things like “oh this person usually raps but is singing here!” or “wow so-and-so is using an interesting tone” etc. i mean, i like plenty of songs by groups/artists i’m less familiar with, but it’s different when i DO know stuff about them

PD are you also going to check out Danielle (NewJeans) on Lee Mujin Service next week? Maybe you don't have it on your radar, because it dropped last week :) It was magical!

- You uploaded this at 4 am my time so it's right there for my tuesday morning :) - Hey, at least y'all have ACs at all. When it's over 30°C in Germany, we just suffer. Nothing we can do about it. So far we've been lucky that only about two weeks of the entire year get that hot. But that's changing now with global warming. Heat waves becoming more frequent 🙃 - Sweden has some nice pleasant summers. Were it not for the fact that they get even more rain than Britain. - Exist is actually EXO's 7th studio album, not the 9th. Still VERY impressive. Especially considering that their 4 year seniors SHINee just released their 8th album two weeks before that. - I still really hope that you're gonna do the listening parties for SHINee and Odd Eye Circle. You said you were gonna do them this week in the comments of the schedule post. I completely understand if you don't have that time anymore but it'd be awesome if they made it on to the September schedule. I just need to know what you think of OEC's Je Ne Sais Quoi and that live stage on The Show. And part of me is still hoping for LPs of Billlie's and Dreamcatcher's most recent albums. Billage Chapter 3 is Billlie's best album yet and Propose is in the top 5 best songs of Dreamcatcher's entire discography for me. - Suho really caught me when I saw his solo performance at MIK Festival in London last year. Among the hella stacked lineup (Holland, Cherry Bullet, Golden Child, Chungha, Viviz, Pentagon, Suho, Red Velvet) he really stuck out. He was the only one who brought a live band with him. It felt so different from all the regular Kpop performances we saw that day. And he just oozed charisma and confidence. You could tell he's been doing this for ten years and how much passion he has for his craft. Suho had a solo release last year which you never released a reaction for. The title track Grey Suit is a slow ballad and I'm not sure if that's your vibe. But he also has an MV for the b-side Hurdle. Super groovy and funky, you'd love that one I'm sure! - The mismanagement of Kep1er is truly a tragedy. We got less than a year left on their contract and it already feels like WakeOne have sort of abandoned them. - I'm excited for the website! It sounds like a lot of work but I think it'll be worth it. Especially as someone who likes to have all of his content neatly organised in one place. - Having seen Chungha live on two separate occasions, I can tell you: as much as she comes off like a valkyrie goddess in her music videos, in person she is just the most adorable, down to earth human being you could imagine :) - Eunbi's Door was good but it wasn't until Glitch when she really started to develop HER signature sound. And she just kept refining it with every comeback. So of course The Flash turned out the way it did and it just makes sense that it got her her first win. I'm so excited to see how she will continue to evolve that sound. - NewJeans' music is so damn good, it's such a shame that all of it is SO FUCKING SHORT. The Get Up EP is 6 tracks with a total runtime of 12 minutes. Average song length is TWO MINUTES. The longest song sits at 2:34. Just, why? Why is it a trend right now to just completely omit the bridge and final chorus? And it's not just NewJeans, Enhypen is guilty of this as well. And so many others. Please, bring back long songs! - I think the huge popularity of NewJeans also comes down to the fact that their music is very approachable and easy to listen to. - Yo, why is Mino dressed like some countryside grandma? - Winner is one of the groups I haven't gotten to yet on my own Kpop journey so this is the first time I'm hearing this song in full. And DAMN, Seungyoon has some pipes on him. - There is a German saying: „Nichts hält länger als ein Provisorium.“ Nothing lasts longer than a provisional solution. Let's hope that's not the case for you and you can arrive at a complete solution that you're satisfied with. - Why do I listen to you? Because you're interesting and you have interesting thoughts on topics that I'm interested in as well. It's that simple.

In terms of the music that NewJeans makes of you really wanted to listen to other music where they probably took inspiration from I would definitely check out PinkPantheress music. Her music is within that genre as well. NewJeans music is very much within that mix of Jersey Club and UK Garage music that’s been getting really popular in just pop. Even Jungkook’s Seven is a UK Garage inspired beat and there’s even a UK Garage remix of Jimin’s Like Crazy. NewJeans whole creative direction headed by Min Heejin is definitely something that is very calculated and the woman and her team are very smart with how globally successful NewJeans has become. That’s why I’m interested in how she’s going to do as the main producer for Taehyung’s upcoming album.

HIII PD! In terms of my week it's been really good, I live in France so it's a prettty good country in terms of temperature to live in. I struggle with heat a lot but it's been fine this year so I've been enjoying summer since my break started, rewatching Alchemy of Souls with you guys. I loved this episode of the pod! Flowed really well, perfect time for me to do my chores. And I love listening to you guys talk - Blaire has gotten so much better at filming/recording and it's a real pleasure to listen to you two talk about kpop. As for PD, I've loved listening to your podcasts ever since the 2020 quarantine ones so I'm having so much fun and nostalgia hearing you talk about everything in that format again! I hope the heat doesn't last too long and you have some time for yourself.

Hello, when you eventually get to do some NCT Dream bonus drops, I hope you'll think about including the Glitch Mode Rearranged Encore Version bc I think it is just so epic and worth a watch

Noem

I really loved this episode of the podcast! Because I don't listen to much k-pop nowadays it's nice to discover new music, especially knowing PD has already listened to them and loved them. I've been doing fine, I have 2 weeks to go before a 2 weeks vacation on which I'm gonna do absolutely nothing and I can't wait! To answer your question, I think I like any podcast PD hosts because of the way you talk, explain your views, feelings and even just what happened during the last week. With these, I can just take a moment for myself, chill and think about my life. I'm always thankful for any discussion or conversation you guys have that we can have an input in. Because I also watch a bunch of things during the week, I'm gonna try to drop a random ass suggestion in the comments that the pod makes me think of. You can ignore them btw, it's more of a way for me to relate and add to the conversation. My suggestion for this week, talking about amazing vocals and vocalists who keep working hard to improve; Eunkwang's The Man on Immortal Songs 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK8WIrG5OJo I've been obsessed with this performance since I've watched Eunkwang perform it again during BTOB's 10th anniversary concert. Anywayy, let's have a nice week!!

Hi PD, thanks for appreciating Kang Seungyoon’s voice. You should watch his King Of Mask Singer (KOMS) performances, which he won for 6 times.

I've been enjoying this podcast so far so much! I used to really love your podcast from 2019 i think? When you invited people like Cameron and Dezzy and talked with them about all kinds of things, i especially loved the deep dive on Cameron and the stray kids episode with dezzy. That was before i became a stay and only thanks to you i started to really respect and enjoy them on a deeper level, i saw them live only a few months after listening to your podcast and that made me a stan so thank you i guess haha no but really i am looking forward to future episodes. I listen to them in the morning on the way to work and split the episodes if i arrive earlier than the episode ends and it keeps me motivated. Hope you and Blaire don't overwork yourselves and have a wonderful rest of your week!

WiseSmellyLegs

I like listening to you because I like you as a person and no matter what type of content you would be releasing I would stick around. Even if it was random beatboxing every morning or having freestyle rap battles with Blaire. (By the way, that would be really lit! You should consider doing it at least once as an intro for this podcast...) Another aspect is the way you speak. Both here and in your videos. It might be because you don't edit your videos and as you said you taught yourself to speak without mistakes, so you could just start and stop recording and move to another reaction. But although you do it on purpose, it feels really natural and for someone like me, who spends a lot of time alone, it is like having a conversation with someone. I literally pause the video to write my answer or even if I don't answer to that part/topic I usually have at least small portion of conversation with you in my head... Basically the thing I am describing is it's nice to spend the time with you. And I mean both of you! Obviously I don't know Blaire that much, because I have seen less content with her, but she seems to be kind and sweet! Also... since she admitted in this episode her official name is not Blaire, does her name start with M? I don't know if people know her name and if not I am not sure if she is okay with them knowing it, so I am asking safely. Just in case, to make it clear that I am not some kind of stalker... The name was mentioned before and I assumed it was meant to be Blaire, but I wasn't sure 100% and I didn't ask, because it wasn't important that much. Regarding NewJeans: To be honest... I am amazed by everything they do and how they do, basically top to bottom everything is awesome. But I don't listen to their music. And not because it would be bad, not at all! I just hardly ever go and play their music from my own will. To be fair, ETA might be the first one I will start to play on my own! But since I love their concept (like breaking the fourth wall and being more characters within the universe), the ideas, the music videos, I feel like I am more a fan of Min Hee Jin than a fan of NewJeans. And I don't want to sound like it is not their work and it is artificial etc, I don't mind when idols are not included the production. Obviously it brings completely different aspect for the group, when they are included in it, but I see idols as something like "music actors" and not like for musicals, but basically as if they had scripts for each comeback and played their role. I mean, you wouldn't go to an actor or actress to tell them: "Hey! The role you are playing is not based on anything you have been through, so I am not interested..." So... I like NewJeans and all the things around them I mentioned, but since I don't listen to their music, I wonder if I am not Min Hee Jin's fan... And definitely the world-wide known name of Hybe Corporation definitely helped them to start their career as global stars, but I think it is really based on Min Hee Jin and her genius ideas and know-how of the industry, so they would have made it anyway, but it would have taken a bit more time, probably. And I think Bang Si Hyuk was aware of this as well. That Hybe is mainly the limitless money support for their production and promotion, but it is really built around her. Because she was originally meant to debut her group under Source Music and then later on she was given her own label under Hybe Labels. And I assume they intentionally decided to debut Le Sserafim first to give them time to shine, after Min Hee Jin told them (Hybe) her plans. I don't mean it in any bad way against Le Sserafim, but Hybe must have known that she was preparing really a juggernaut group and maybe because of that they decide to give her Ador just for her own (or she could possible ask for that on her own as well).

elisa paci

MHJ was given her own label under Hybe because she wanted total control over her groups' music and concepts! She's actually talked about Hybe not believing in Newjeans and especially Attention as a song and thinking it wouldn't do well lol but MHJ said she knew they would be really successful. Also, Newjeans was originally supposed to debut before Le Sserafim, they'd been preparing Attention for 2 years (with a different member, the maknae Hyein joined in 2022) but they had some issues and had to delay the debut until later in 2022. Sorry for the random reply I just find the topic of Ador as an independent label under Hybe really interesting hahaha

WiseSmellyLegs

🤔🤔! Thank you for making it clear for me! Weird that Hybe didn’t believe in them… is there any article or the actual interview regarding this? I would like to read more about that, because I must have missed that. I mean, I am no expert about NewJeans, but when they debuted, I went back through all announcements and I remember reading about Min Hee Jin joining Big Hit (back then before the creation of Hybe) to work with Source Music, where she was promised to have her creative freedom, so based on that I assumed she had creative freedom even before the creation of Ador..

hi pd! i'm catching up on these podcasts cause i have been busy recently and something you said about newjeans and their authenticity stuck out to me. i just wanted to let you know that the girls do in fact write quite a few of their songs. 4/5 of the girls have writing credits on half of their discography including their biggest hits like hypeboy, ditto, omg, and even songs on their new ep. hanni and danielle have mentioned how their also interested in producing in the future. this came as a suprise to me because like you said they feel so well planned that it comes off authentic but in actually most of what they do is authentic to them. the girls have talked about how they don't have vocal guides, some of their bts videos have shown their choreographer uses a lot of input from what the girls freestyle when listening to the song, and they just have fun on stage. it feels so weird for a group that has been so planned out to also have so many creative aspects for the girls to have input on at such a young age and do it so well. thanks for the hard work!
