Not gonna lie, it was behind my expectations. After all the hype they got from the show.. it lacks character somehow.. maybe it's just me tho. I saw what they did with Izone and Wanna One; but somehow they're butchering Kep1er and ZB1.

honeyboy

i really like this song. however seeing the live stage of it made it somehow 100x better. their vocals were absolutely amazing and so stable it was phenomenal. i cant wait till you react to it. i love the live version of it more than the digital

Juliana

thank u for this! I absolutely loved this debut for them and i definitely recommend checking out the in bloom live stage from their debut show, since the performance really enhances the song and you get to see the members shine more :) Im so glad they went the refreshing route and stuck to the concept film !!

Sami Casingal

No it’s not just you. I also agree and feel that way. I ended up liking it and it is pretty catchy, but like for example Xikers, it feels like it’s missing something to differentiate them from a regular group aside from amazing vocals compared to Xikers.

Amanda Bernström

They have so much content out there you can check out if you want. Their debut album Their debut showcase stages In Bloom Studio Choom Reality show CampZerobaseone (3 eps) KstarNextDoor (2 eps, it was HILARIOUS)

Annika

You really need to check out their live stage & the live stages of the other songs from the debut showcase. (Also the studio choom performance). They are just too good. Especially new kidz on the block, I'm obsessed with the choreo. Like this is probably one of my favorite debuts in years. I'm so glad they went with that style of music and a fresh youthful concept. Like legit the only thing I'm a bit sad about is that gunwook wasnt shown at all during his first singing part in the music video, same with some other members screentime, but in the performance all of them shine so much, there was also some adlibs of members that werent caught well in the mv, its really just that some of them didn't get alot of screentime in the music video, which is a bit sad but I mean.. I honestly expected worse from wakeone so I cant really complain, same with fair line distribution, people will have different opinions about it, but compared to other groups I stan, its really not that bad on this whole album 😭 You also need to check out camp zerobaseone, its SO FUN! Their group chemistry is already amazing despite having not even debuted during that time, sorry I just love them so much ugh 😭

Sami Casingal

Can someone explain to me why they’re only a temporary group? I know their contracts are super short compared to the usual, but couldn’t they just renew after those few years? And I thought the whole point of a survival show is to create groups with the hope of them lasting awhile. Like these boys went through what they did to debut only to be part of a predetermined temporary group?

Mollie

As a fellow Gunwook parent (😂) I felt the same way at first but once I watched the live stage I actually thought they did a great job with the part distribution, Gunwook shares his parts with Taerae so unless you're watching a live stage it almost sounds like Taerae sings all those lines. The MV is a little wonky with showing the line distribution. Matthew is the only one I ended up feeling needed more parts, I think just because his energy fits the song so well and I thought he was underused.

poptart2003

it's because they are all from different companies at the end of the day so choices like making them last longer can't be made easily unfortunately even if they are very successful. Izone and Wanna one just for example both did really well but if all party's aka companies that the members are from want their idols back you can't really stop it. Who knows maybe hopefully things will be different for them unlike others and possibly Kepler as their not done yet either.

Tesa

I'm so happy with their debut! The album is truly a no-skip album. I think the line distribution in the title track is pretty fair and in line with everyone's current skills. I think the live stages highlight each member better than the MV!

Victoria Douglas

With each passing moment I get even more sad they don't have a long contract 😭

Marcel Wannieck

It's because all of these boys belong to different companies. Those companies sent them to Boys Planet with the hope of gaining publicity for their trainees and idols. And when someone actually debuts in the final group, that's even better. Promote in ZB1 for 2.5 years and become very popular from that. But eventually the original companies will develop future plans. Like debuting these guys solo or using their huge fame to jumpstart the popularity of a new group debut. A contract extension with ZB1 would get in the way of that. This is actually exactly the reason why the IZ*ONE contract extension could never happen. Some companies might have been willing but Starship had fixed plans to debut Yujin and Wonyoung in IVE. Source Music probably also already had plans for Le Sserafim with Sakura and Chaewon. Or Yuehua with Yena's solo debut. The nine ZB1 members are from six different companies. You can be damn sure that Yuehua will want to put Zhang Hao, Ricky, Gyuvin and Yujin into a new boy group of their own after the ZB1 contract is over.

Mac

PD - since you are a Gunwook fan, I highly recommend you watch Camp Zerobaseone as well as Zerobaseone's appearance on Kstarnextdoor. There were a lot of great and funny Gunwook moments, and we got to see new sides of him, so I became more of a fan after seeing him in those two shows.

Sami Casingal

Ok thanks for explaining. That makes complete sense. I just didn’t want their hard work to go to waste for that short time they’re in ZB1, and I didn’t want their dreams of becoming idols and debuting and lasting for awhile in the long run to not come true once ZB1 is finished. I just had worries, that’s all. And I also probably was confused at first because I barely watch survival shows and the ones I do watch are on a smaller scale with everyone pretty much from the same company. I’ve never watched produce 101 or anything like that in such a big scale, and so I thought survival shows were mainly for debuting groups that would hopefully last long under one company. I didn’t realize survival shows like Boys Planet are a different kind of survival show.

Maria

tbh idk if they had money before but they'll definitely have it now because they already hit over 1.3mil album sales have broken so many records... also insane to note that zhang hao's cbar (fanbase) was responsible for 300k of those - he's already in the top 10 of cbar album sales of all time, literally right next to the likes of karina, minghao, yeonjun, and hyunjin... equally unhinged: haobin (hao and hanbin's ship) has a cbar and they bought 60k 😭

Dhel

PD!!! So happy to see you react so quickly and love your reaction too! Even though they don’t show it in the mv but i think during live performance your boy, Gunwook, definitely get to show his talent really well and get good lines too. Really hope you’ll be able to hear the whole album because they are sooooo good. And if you can, definitely check out their mnet debut showcase (you can find the full one on bilibili or the cut ones on mnet channel) they really show off their talent and it’s also very fun with so many fun segments!!!! They performed their boys planet songs too and a very favorite bside 🫢 I also recommend to watch their studio choom of in bloom because again, they show off the amazing choreo there. They also have been very busy on variety shows and I highly recommend watching them too (the boys are funny, unfiltered, loud, and just has amazing chemistry) - Kstarnextdoor - Camp Zerobaseone - Amazing Saturday (incoming) Thankyou again PD! And also hope your plan to move is going well 🫶

jordan

are you doing a listening party for enhypens dark blood 😭😭😭😭 its such a good ep you wont regret

stylesniklaus

kep1er deserves better :( but good for these boys!!

Stefan

My biggest surprise now after debut is definitely Matthew. I was never big on him during Boys Planet, he never entered my Top 9, but already in the pre debut content you could see what he would bring to the group from a character perspective, and I'd never expected the impact he would have on me listening to the album. He's got one of the most distinctive voices in the group for sure.

anejelly

Honestly speaking it's probably my least favorite title track debut from produce series (gp and bp included). It is growing on me however. I don't know but to me it's feels more suiting to be a comeback rather than a debut. I do like their album tho, most b-sides are pretty good to me. It's like Kep1er all over to me. I love the bsided but I always have a complicated feelings on their title tracks lol.

Sea

I just want to first say that your outfit and the background for this reaction matches the music video really well actually! The outfit is similar to the dark outfits in the MV haha. And I remember before you had some concerns about Matthew fitting the image of this group, and honestly with this debut, I think he fits pretty well

Julia Guedes

I love this debut track, is so addictive!! I spend the hole day singing it! I know people expected more but they gave me exactly what I wanted from them, good vibe song with good beat and addictive chorus 10/10 for me

lasgin99wif

I’m begging (on my knees even) for you to check out their variety stuff. Their chemistry is absolute gold and they work so well together as a group. Especially Camp Zerobaseone is just incredible (the staff behind the show knew exactly what fans want to see and they delivered!).

krista li

This is a really special debut for me because it's from one of the survival shows I've watched all the way through. So proud of Yu Jin and Gun Wook my sonssss. The mini-album is definitely worth a Listening Party and can't wait to see them on the music show circuit with this one! Also!!! They just announced that I-LAND 2 will be premiering next year and the girl group will be under WAKEONE. So pumped especially if the format is similar to I-LAND

Meruka Hinaru

You might not notice because of the choice of shots, but Gunwook actually sings more than it seems on In Bloom and sings A LOT in the other songs, not just raps, I'm so proud of our boy :')

aidrou

I am in love with them. EP is fantastic, live stages on the showcase were great. Boys have so much chemistry together and they are quite funny, so you really need to watch variety with them (someone above already mentioned BP ep 13, Camp Zerobaseone and Kstarnextdoor). Shows showcased them in much more different light, probably because of the stress and the more serious tone of the BP they were not able to display their personality to the 100%, but after reality shows each of them became much more dear to my heart.

Meruka Hinaru

Istg the live stage for In Bloom is CHEF'S KISS, the choreo makes the song like 10,000 times better, it makes me want to stand up and do a happy dance.

Sarah 세라

So proud of zb1! IZ*ONE’s flower trilogy was legendary so I am very happy that the flower theme is back, it’s especially refreshing for a boy group in this generation. Looking forward to the album and live stage reaction 💙

alyce

i loved this debut!! the song, the album, everything is great! although i understand why some people may think its underwhelming, i personally think it's perfect. they give me the same vibes iz*one did when they first debuted; it was not some big, extraordinary debut, but the song is really good, the type that you can listen to it over and over again and still feel the butterflys in your stomach, and it assigns a certain image to the group, one that i think fits them perfectly. about the line distribution, i actually think its pretty good! yeah, it could be better, but it also could be sooo much worse. just the music video that didn't really showcase all the members. but still, i think everyone got to shine, both in the song itself and in the performance. and they still have a whole career ahead of them, so let's hope they get the most out of each member during this time. also, the live stages are a must watch! i already loved the song, but their performance made me like it even more! definitely 10/10 for me

cynthia li

This debut is absolutely magical! Like their debut EP is even more magical. I love In Bloom, no doubt, but even then the song is only middle of my overall rankings out of their EP. Zhang Hao is such a natural center. He was my one pick so I was actually near tears watching him. But I also loved how everyone shined in their EP (I think their performance/stages definitely highlight all the members better than the MV, especially taerae imo) I hope you can find the time to watch Camp Zerobaseone and their appearances on K star next door! I know your schedule is packed right now, but man they are SO good at variety it's actually crazy. As a long time kpop fan, I don't think I've ever seen a group be this good at variety right out of the gate. If schedule wise that doesn't work out, I'd love to see a reaction to just their vocal covers on K Star Next Door (10cm - Phonecert and Gaho's Start Over) I have never fell so fast and so hard for a group before. They're really something special

Isabella N.

so excited to see your reaction to the live stages (and hopefully studio choom)! everyone already said it, but line distribution and center time is way more balanced than the mv shows! gunwook was one of my top picks on the show and he’s my second bias after hao right now, so i know you’ll be a lot happier after seeing their performances/listening to the ep. also, it’s so nice to hear all their voices cuz boys planet didnt highlight some of them in terms of vocals (especially yujin and jiwoong) but they’re all SINGERS. the full choreo for in bloom is actually insane, too.

sunnyside

as someone crying in your comments about gunwook the whole time it was airing: never fear, the line distribution is better than it appears for him! he's still in the lower half, but i think it's nothing too bad luckily. HOWEVER! he really, really shines in new kidz on the block and i highly suggest watching the stage to see the perfect son shine :) also echoing everyone suggesting camp zerobaseone! knetz are acknowledging him as a variety hardcarry because of it. he's really natural in front of the camera and funny and endearing too :)

Alya

You really shoud check out CampZerobaseone. It shows their relationship as a group VERY well and it's super fun.

Yanny

i cant wait till you do a listening party, the b sides are all so so so good, zhang hao solo is the greatest thing ever and new kids on the block is so good. honestly a no skip album, i cant stop listening to it. also hoping you will check out their debut showcase!

Nadia

Totally agree that there is something SO special and satisying about that pre-chorus. I'm not quite sure what it is and how to explain it, but just something about the way it's sang and slowed down really elevates the song. My fave part of the song too for sure! Loved this reaction! I think this concept is perfect for their debut but what REALLY impressed me is the entire album. All of the songs are incredibly good and cohesive to the concept, really a no-skip album for me. I felt the b-sides really highlighted how good their vocals are and their potential to be an amazing vocal group (Ricky especially impressed me with how nice is vocal tone is), and the production on the songs are really well done. The live performances are also very enjoyable, their chemistry as a group is so great already. Can't wait to follow the ZEROBASEONE journey. (Also he is my bias but omg Zhanghao's solo on the album is incredible that man can really SINGGG.)

Winter Rian ~

I was so hyped for their debut but I'm feeling a tiny bit lukewarm towards it. Maybe it's been my expectations but I like "Back to Zerobase" way more on a personal level than the title track itself. But it's still a solid debut track, considering how little time they had from the end of BP until now. So far the album lacks a little bit of identity and direction imo, because the vast majority of the songs seem very generic to me :D I hope they find their own color and uniqueness going forward

Milli Mey

I always find it interesting how different opinions on music can be. So many people loved the debut but I quite dislike the concept, find that it doesn't fit them and mostly also find the album very underwhelming. The title track is partly good partly bad and I like one b-side. The rest I will never listen to again. But I guess I would be feeling differently about the group and debut if any of my favorites made it into the group. Instead there are several members I never even voted for.

Dale

I've never liked a comment faster than this. Definitely agree that PD needs to at least watch the two covers on K star next door, 10cm - Phonecert and Gaho's Start Over(especially this since he's watched Itaewon Class). But if his schedule is already too much, then I would rather he rest

iemiliah

as a 90's kid i love the a-ha sample and moreover, lovE THE BOYS. i had to become a patron and check your reactions to boys planet. thank you hyuk (?) pd, ive never heard you say your name!!!!!! and Youth in the Shade imo is such a solid debut album it even made me cry lmao

crys

YESS this was such a nice surprise! i absolutely loved their debut and the album is AMAZINGGG! i love how simple yet pretty and sophisticated their concept and sound is, and you’re right! the other tracks REALLY showcase their vocals a lot more, its heavenly!! they really didn’t disappoint, this was so simple yet satisfying and nostalgic, also because it sampled the 80s classic take on me by aha! i’m REALLLYY looking forward to ur other zb1 reactions, i can tell you love them a lot watching you react to them, so i can’t wait for you to dive deeper into their variety because god these boys are so charming and lovable i got soo attatched to them, they’re really fun to watch!! do check out - boys planet ep 13 top 9 commentary - camp zerobaseone! (their 3 parter reality show, 1.5 hours each ep, its soo fun and healing) - kstarnextdoor PLEASEEE theyre so funny there you’ll love it for sure!! don’t miss out! - of course their full album as well as debut show stages! you’ll see how the line distribution is actually amazing, and the live stages made me love the songs more! - also they have a studio choom for in bloom! i really cant wait for ur reactions to these, especially their variety, some members might shock you with their unexpected charm and new sides to them you didn’t know they had, these boys are soo fun Nd already like family… you’ll enjoy these so much and you’ll love them so much more so i really hope to see these soon!❤️

Isabel

I was so happy with this debut! I personally haven't been able to get in to a lot of 4th gen boy group music tbh, but I got so attached to zerobaseone during Boy's Planet and was really hoping that I would enjoy their music, and this is perfect for me! Their vocals are incredible, and every song on the album is great.

Daniel

The sound of their debut album is very refreshing since it seems to step away from what 4th gen boy groups have been putting out! I do wish some things were different but I'm nitpicking after years of consuming kpop content over and over. I expected a lot of IZ*ONE similarities and I think we got that visually but I don't know about the song production just yet. Based on the ending of Boys Planet + clips of them practicing the dance from early May, it's kinda clear to me that the concept + song + choreography was produced before the final lineup was determined and they assigned parts to members based on their skillset at the time. e.g. Zhang Hao/Hanbin really could've swapped lines and the song would've worked to the same effect (kinda wish we got Hao adlibs instead of Hanbin in the final chorus). I think Zhang Hao did deserve his P01 spot but it's kinda a bummer that we'll only get this solo which doesn't exude Zhang Hao's essence entirely (I think a lot of us wanted to hear violin/classical influences) It makes sense, I think it is wiser to push something out quickly to capitalize on the hype, but I will have much greater expectations for the next comeback. Overall, I like the direction this group is heading towards but I want them to fully use the members and their unique talents to their advantage moving forward

Pau

I absolutely adore this as a debut, especially as the start of a new generation. It reminds me so heavily of 2016-2018 kpop, particularly wannaone's debut, in the sense that it's just so fun, light, and summery. I'm super glad to see that wakeone tried something outside of the realm of what is so commonly seen with 4th gen boy groups (or trying to do a concept that was dwindling in popularity like they did with kep1er's wa-da-da) and it's just super refreshing. I think it's easy to tell that this was a title track that was curated long before the members of ZB1 were announced/chosen by the public, but that just makes me more excited for their future comebacks. If they have managed to dive so effortlessly into In Bloom, I can only imagine how wonderful they'll be with songs and concepts that are specially designed with them in mind. I'd also love to see your thoughts on the rest of the album, or seeing you react to some of their performances (they're promoting New Kidz on the Block alongside In Bloom). It definitely continues on the theme of this only being the beginning for them and does an incredibly job of showing off the other members that maybe didn't get to show off their skills as much in the title track. I personally absolutely adore the opening track Back to ZEROBASE (the instrumental of which was playing in their teaser film)!
