Yoooo... I had the same ranking as you PD. Watching The Boyz on RTK has been an experience. They choose an interesting concept and then follow it through and they always kill it performance-wise however their songs/covers on their own never stand out that much (except the Heroine one). As for ONF this was my favourite performance of theirs it was soooo much fun. Their cover of It's Raining is great even without the performance part of it My top two for this round is ONF and The Boyz followed by Pentagon 3rd. Also, I've watched the full version of all the performances on Youtube (without the audience reactions) so there is better continuity for the VeriVery performance.

Loved this episode! Also, of you were a bit bummed with the one takes effect for verivery not really coming across as well due to the other group cuts, there is the full uncut versionn of it on youtube without the other groups reactions! that's if you haven't looked it up already! Thanks for this episode reaction anyway, I am so excited to see you watch the final episode and hear your thoughts!

My ranking was pretty similar to your's, just swapping ONF with The Boyz and Oneus with Pentagon. Its Raining was the performance that really got me into ONF and, not knowing them before the show, I feel like it really stood out. I had planned on spending time to go through all the groups I didn't know well after the show but that performance had me immediately intrigued to know what else they can do, suffice to say, they were challenging Oneus for my personal bias among the groups before the finale. I actually loved a lot of your suggestions for Verivery's performance and think something along those lines really could've really elevated it (it was fun but felt a bit all over place for me), although I laughed out loud when you suggested they get Kangmin to go shirtless so he can change on stage since he is the youngest in the entire show (2003) so I can't imaging them choosing him to do that.

If you watch the boyz performance again you can see that during the dance break they spell vixx which u think is beyond creative tied in with all there other ideas , they really stood out to me this whole show and I think that’s the same with the other groups that look to them for ideas. ONF performance for me was just really enjoyable the arrangement was amazing I think they executed everything well the concept the song it was so clean. I am actually very surprised that pentagon didn’t get as much attention , personally think follow was their best performance and is one I go back to watch all the time their power and ability to perform is outstanding and in my opinion they are the most well put together group throughout the show. Too performance for me is one I go back to as well I actually really enjoyed how they showed a fresh concept for hard carry considering it’s a hard song to perform I just don’t think the odds worked in their favour. Verivery performance was like watching a section of Aladdin from the movie they showed the concept amazingly they just needed to be more polished . In all honesty as much as I love oneus their performance didn’t grab me and stand out , even tho they did a great job I think it’s just my music and performance taste but I’m so excited for the last episode

my ranking 1. tbz 2. onf( soo close to 1st i really really liked it) 3. oneus 4. verivery 5. pentagon 6. too ahh i’m kind of bias bc of the boyz i literally couldn’t sleep that night because i was so excited to see the boyz performance and it definitely went beyond my expectations and was so gorgeous. i think onf did so good as well it made me think i could dance for a second!! oneus could almost be 2nd for me i know it’s late for me but this made me want to stan them, their vocals are so goodd

2021-07-18 05:25:00 My personal ranking was almost the same as yours, PD, but I flipped ONF & TBZ. I'm a Starlight & was impressed by TBZ's performance, but the one that really wowed me was It's Raining. Maybe ONF's creativity wasn't as abstract & beautiful, but it was still completely unexpected and FANTASTICALLY done. That was straight out of a Broadway show and really fun to watch. Honestly, when I first watched this I was 100% ready to say goodbye to Oneus; after placing last in the collab mission & based on the other teams' reactions, I wasn't sure their Be Mine performance was enough to save them, so I was SO GLAD they survived. 🥺😊 Can't wait to see what you think of the finale performances!!

My ranking based only on this round performances: 1) ONF, 2) The Boyz, 3) Oneus, 4) Pentagon, 5) veryvery, 6) TOO. As I said last episode, ONF's It's Raining is one of my favorites from all of the performances not just from this round but for the whole show. It was the performance that I felt that they said to the viewers "winning or losing, this is the performance to remember us from". I agreed with a lot of your opinions about veryvery's performance...it was good but not great. And I feel that making it one-take didn't add much to the performance in the end...it felt like it was put there more for the challenge than to add something needed for the concept that they want it, like The boyz adding the moonlight sonata in Shangri-la for example. Same opinions about Pentagon's perfomance too....they really tried to make Follow work for them but in the end...it was good but unfortunately it wasn't the best song for them. TOO's performance was definitely lacking so I was not surprised that they were eliminated this round.

What I LOVE about the boyz and think why deserves to win is that they’re constantly go out of their comfort zone and keep trying new thing first with stunts to showing a musical side then showing and now going for contemporary dancing which is really hard and I think they pulled it quiet nicely, cont dance can easily look cheap if not done well but they managed to keep it clean beside alot of their moves requites synch and timing else the whole dance would be meaningless but they def pulled it off... I wish we had you talking about their performance but that’s fine. I can’t wait tor the final and ah one more thing since I watched rtk only because I am the boyz fan but I was so grateful I get to know onf since I never came across them before, I think Hyojin is easily one of my best vocalists in the whole industry WHY IS HE SO UNDERRATED oh my god, his voice...

Sam

Everyone has articulated my same thoughts very well, so the only thing I want to add to the discussion is that seeing Kino cry hurts more seeing someone in one of my favourite groups be upset. I came into this as a Deobi since their debut, and a big fan of Pentagon and Golden Child. I left this series as a big fan of ONF, so I loved everything about this show - except seeing Pentagon lose some of their light. There is something uniquely painful about seeing people with incredible skills and passion give their all and fall short. It’s much harder than being able to rationalize a failure due to lack of abilities. I don’t know what I’m trying to say, other than I really wish the absolute best for Pentagon going forward. Looking forward to watching the finale with you

Doyoungismyult

It is very interesting to hear you say you thought TOO sounded like a cover of “hard carry” because as an aghase since debut they sounded absolutely nothing alike. Everything from the styling, to the sound was different. TOO truly took the song and made it their own. It was much more urban/trap influenced

Jodi Wong

the show gave previews of their songs because the audio (for competition streaming purposes) were released the next day after this episode was aired!

Hi PD! On the 42:30 mark of the video you stated that Eric resembled Xiaojun. He actually looks like Jeno of NCT Dream for me and they're both '00 liners! 💖 Just to add, he's the maknae, lead dancer, and also one of the members who's fluent in English! 🥺

I think if I have to rank on personal preference my order would be 1. The Boyz 2. TOO 3. Oneus 4. ONF 5. Verivery 6. Pentagon. I think it's safe to say The Boyz have the upperhand in the way that their creativity is insane. They could make the most boring song into an amazing peformance, It's crazy. I also wanna say that I never really got into Shangri-La when it was first released but I've actually added The Boyzs rearrangement of the song to my playlist so even though their performance is what stood out I really enjoyed their take on the song too. I can easily say that I enjoyed TOOs Hard Carry performance in the way that I liked their arrangement of the song more than the original and I kind of liked the laid back vibe they gave it. I do kind of agree with them being a little young to fully pull off a song like Hard Carry tho so I get your points PD. I hate to put Pentagon last since my reasoning isn't actually very just, other than the fact that I really don't like listening to Follow, the original is bad in opinion and I physically can't listen to it Their arrangement was better but still hard for me to listen to so even though their performance was really good I couldn't fully enjoy it and I kind of hate myself for that cause I love Pentagon. I think from as objective a point of view I can manage I would rank them 1. The Boyz 2. ONF 3. Oneus 4. Pentagon 5. Verivery 6. TOO ONF killed the arrangement and their performance was quite fun to watch but It just wasn't my personal favourite. I quite enjoyed Be Mine by Oneus and the theme was quite nice too, they had some really nice performance factors. Unfortunately from an objective stand I would have to put TOO last because of the fact that the energy in the actual stage wasn't 100%, however it shows more in their dance practice. Also with the point of them being rookies and overall very young so doing Hard Carry was a little out there for them but I think they did a very good job with quite a hard song. I can't wait for episode 8 and your reaction to Oneus, The Boyz and Pentagon!

希文 王

my ranking is generally the same except my first place is ONF, though The Boyz did a really good job, for me I just think ONF did better (maybe it's because I'm nowhere near fluent in korean, so their story line actually didn't come across as clear as their other performances to me), and also the song remix was just very forgettable for me (while ONF's is still in my head). agree with pd on TOO, they're too green, and when their rendition of Hard Carry was so close to the original, you can see where they simplified the choreo which made it even less impressive

Mesha ✌︎

did u notice the boyz made VIXX formation at the start when they were dancing?

Diana Montaño

Am i the only one that thinks hyun jae looks like Leeteuk from Super Junior??

bub b

hey pd, will you be posting the 8th episode soon?

Meruka Hinaru

I loved the fact that in some way, The Boyz still referenced VIXX with the use of Moonlight Sonata without even knowing. Because VIXX used Moonlight Sonata as part of the backtrack for Fantasy. It's a fun connection.

Phu

My personal ranking is 1)The Boyz 2)ONF 3)OneUs 4)Verivery 5)Pentagon 6)TOO

린 애

The Boyz also changed the title of their version of Shangri-La to Quasi una Fantasia (Fantasy) which is the alternate name of Moonlight Sonata. You can see just how much thought they put into it!

Aurayaya

Imagine being me, still waiting for the 8th episode to be released

bryonyon

God I’m glad it’s not just me, I was genuinely half convinced I’m just stupid and missed it

Nicolette Starliight

My ranking 1st The Boyz [shangri-la is one of my favorite kpop songs and they executed it so well. Them adding Moonlight Sonata to it just changed the whole performance for me since it is also one of my favorite classical pieces as well along with them doing CONPEMPERARY DANCING and flower concept which are things I also love. This was honestly a perfect masterpiece it makes me emotional just watching it my favorite performance in road to kingdom overall] 2nd ONF [it's raining + complete + mj vibes = masterpiece they absolutely killed it I am so proud of them for getting first since I am rooting for them to win but personally this would be second for me. my second performance from road to kingdom overall] 3rd Verivery [It was like watching a play they did an amazing job trying to do it as one shot] 4th Oneus [Seoho's vocals are unforgettable for me in this performance] 5th Pentagon 6th TOO

Di

My personal rankings for this round: 1. ONF - The song arrangement won me over. They made this song theirs. 2. The Boyz - Beautiful performance 3. Pentagon - The intensity of their performance was what brought them above ONEUS for me. 4. ONEUS - I enjoyed the story that they incorporated into the performance, but the song arrangement still very much felt like a cover. 5. Verivery - I enjoyed the performance but I agreed, the actual storyline within the performance wasn't strong enough or obvious enough. Gogobebe is still very much a Mamamoo song to me. 6. TOO - Unfortunately, I don't really like Hard Carry, so this already put TOO at a disadvantage for me.

Maya

my personal first place was hands down ONF they did such an incredible arrangement with the song and their dancing and whole performance was mesmerizing especially the outro, I was genuinely mind blown

Ulani Barr

My rankings for this round were: 1st ONF- the arrangement was incredible and I loved the vibe, it was fun and captured the vibe of MJ and Rain as well as themselves, the acting was good too; 2nd The Boyz- It was ethereal and beautiful, the concept was interesting and the way it was brought to life was just mesmerising, I also loved their arrangement and how different it was to previous performances of theirs; 3rd Verivery- their performance was just so fun and engaging and I loved the concept, it was really catchy and the one take was so cool , the choreo was top notch as well, the circle bit at the end where they changed angles? Incredible!; 4th Oneus- the concept was great and they did a really great job pulling it off but I just think that the other groups were a bit more memorable; 5th Pentagon- concept was interesting but I agree that the song wasn't really the best choice for them and as a mombebe I just didn't like the way they chose to arrange it. I wish they had tried a different style as well; 6th TOO- wasn't bad, I liked the chorus and some of the choreo as well, the vibe was interesting but they just couldn't stand up to the older groups. There wasn't really a clear concept either and I think they kept it too similar to the original- there wasn't a huge amount of creativity in there. In saying all of that, of course they all worked so hard and I wish there had've been zero eliminations but unfortunately there was and they need to be ranked as well

Christopher Smith

Objectively the best was The Boyz by far. no question. My personal favorites 1-3 though were Pentagon, The Boyz, and then ONF.

Ena

My rankings this round are 1. ONF- They really served with something powerful and fun, the arrangement was so good and it looked like they had fun doing it. It seemed like a spectacle really and I enjoyed this performance the most. 2. The Boyz- I actually have a different take on this than others, I wasn't actually as impressed by this stage as I was there past performances and only took interest during the second half. I feel as though if they hadn't performed last, it would've been forgettable but at the same time it was stunning. I also think thee mistake with the flower was noticeable and did kind of distract me. 3. Oneus- I think this was there best stage on rtk, they had a storyline, beautiful choreo, seoho had his amazing vocals. I think if they had performed near the end it would have had more impact, and since they've been consistently performing in the beginning there stages seem to be pushed to the side. 4. Verivery- Gogobebe is such a hard song to make different tbh and I kept thinking that they wouldn't be able to pull it off but I was surprised how well the Aladin concept fit. I liked the idea of a one-take but I agree with mnets editing it didn't look as grand as it could've been. 5. Pentagon- I don't know why but I'm not vibing with there stages all of rtk, they are known a lot for there confidence and acting but maybe because I'm a sucker for a storyline I didn't enjoy it. Again it's a good performance but not my style. 6. TOO- I think they really missed the mark for this round due to the song choice. I had the same fear with Gogobebe when it came to Hard Carry being a hard song to make different yet still amazing. I didn't exactly like the punk concept and the stage wasn't memorable at all for me while the other groups all had at least on part that amazed me. I think it's been obvious from the start that The Boyz will win rtk, if they don't it'll be extremely shocking. I know when mnet included them in the lineup they thought all the groups had an even chance but wow The Boyz are really genius.

Alena

I enjoyed the TOO version of Hard Carry but I understand everyone's reasonings about why it wasn't as strong a performance as the other groups. What I would like to say is I had never heard Hard Carry before RTK and I enjoyed it when TOO performed it. Listening to the original for the first time after it, I realised I liked the TOO version better. I like the bg melody they added to the chorus compared to got7's more electronic sounding one.
