In fact, Novacaine was written by Lauv. When Lauv visited Kwangya for work, Key saw him and said like 'Hey I'm your fan. Can you give me a song?' LOL Anyway I also loved this album so much. Glad that you liked it too. Thank you for the reaction!

Wow thank you so much for reacting to this. Key is one of if not my favorite solo artists. I just love every single album he puts out. This was amazing!

You perfectly encapsulated how I feel about key. I wish he could get that recognition, because to me he is just so … beyond. I want him to know how incredible and unique he is. And I think the queer music kind of undertones in his music is definitely what has always drawn me like a moth to a flame to him fr 😭😭😭 I’m so glad you loved this album as much as I did. It was like a refreshment I really needed and it’s so … key.

Thank you so much for your reaction and your insight, PD! I Wanna Be reaction was the first video of yours that I've ever seen. It's still on YouTube and I regularly rewatch it - it gives me so much joy, especially your reaction to Imagine, which is my favorite song ever by Key. As for this EP, I think Key himself described it as a music that you would hear in a space dance club, and it can be felt with every song - I just want to dance as soon as the first beats start. I also agree with you on him being extremely underrated as a musician. He is so very well-known for his variety gigs (being a cast member on Amazing Saturday and I Live Alone - one of the biggest variety shows in Korea, as far as I know) and is fairly renowned for his music, but I always felt that he deserves so much more. His artistry is so unique, so diverse and yet SO MUCH HIM, and he puts so much of himself into his music and performances, - and yet, he is fairly underrated. That's why I was happy to see him speaking about his music more and more, and performing on Lee Mujin's Service (and I have to say - you NEED to watch it, PD, you'll love it - Key sang Pleasure Shop, Conan Gray's Memories, Miley Cyrus' Used To Be Young and Riize's Get a Guitar, and he is incredible) - he was finally able to break out of his usual variety performer persona and showed his versatile voice and musicality so beautifully, while also touching upon his music and preferences. Interestingly, you mentioned Lady Gaga - she is one of Key's favorite artists ever, and his sang some of her songs in SHINee's early year concerts.

I'm always looking forward to your reactions to Key because I think you're one of the few reactors who truly understand him and his art! I also wish he could get more recognition. I really feel his dedication and passion in each of his projects, and everything comes to life even more during his solo concerts 🥹

I agree so so much with so much of this! Honestly Key was the first Korean soloist I ever got into, and it's entirely because his music spoke to me, a queer Asian. Songs like "Cool As" and "Helium" and even "Bad Love" have that glam, rockin'-out assuredness that I associate with my favourite queer artists as well. I wish he were so much bigger as an artist, but I'm so glad he's around and chugging away and making this kind of music so visibly, even if it's to a smaller audience. (Also SO agree that it reminds me so much of I Wanna Be, which is such an excellent album and truly stands the test of time!!)

I love how everytime PD reviews a key album it immediately becomes “one of his favorites from Key” lol PD is a lil freak (key’s fandom name) fr

JT

I am not even queer but his music radiates confidence that every part of his being embodies, also one that can only come from life experiences and that really speak to me. In the midst of societal pressures to conform (esp in kr) Key is just unapologetically himself cause he knows he has so much to offer and I think that’s beautiful.

JT

Gaga & BoA are some of his biggest musical inspos and you can really tell!! 🤪

JT

It is HAHA it’s derivative of gaga’s lil monsters i think 😅

JT

I mean the man named his album pleasure shop hahaha

Amberrr

Key performed ALL of these songs at his most recent concert, He is just absolutely AMAZINGGGG, you can find reuploads on Yt

Key is *incredibly* underrated as a singer, YES. Dancer too, but seriously the way he and honestly all of SHINee, can not only emote, it's that somehow it's as if we, the listener, were also singing the song?? As if it's *our* song, not theirs...words are failing me, obviously lol. ETA: on Queerness in SHINee's (I'm including all soloists when I say 'SHINee') music and videos and regular ol' interactions from the perspective of a straight woman of color: I love it. I love that how...I don't want to say sneaky, because I don't think it is sneaky, (maybe it's sneaky for Korea?), but...oh I don't even know what I'm trying to say. I feel that SHINee's quietly expressed a lot of queerness... I guess I just love that he's showing, not telling, if that makes any sense? And again, I'm not suggesting he's gay, straight, or anything in between because that's none of my business. And it's so funny you mention Scissor Sistors and Kyle Minogue (the only Kyle who matters), because I've been going on a Kylie tear and I literally tweeted that I hope she and Key could collab in the future, because Padam Padam would be *perfect* for him. As for Key being well known, ages ago he said he wanted the public to know who he was before he put out his own music. And he was right. He's currently on 2-3 shows, he's done dramas, he's been on the news a number of times for gardening, and...yeah. A lot of people know him, but in different genres. Random: are you fan of Dorian Electra?
