YEEES! I love QWER 😭 Even just the story of how they all came together and how their company runs things is so fun - The J-Rock/Anime influence is very intentional, even Kim Gyeran put Oshi No Ko in his slideshow for what he wanted to do with a girl group iirc, something along those lines of it being inspiring. The lead singer (Siyeon) is Korean but she was a J-Pop Idol, I think the first Korean member of the 48 family of groups. Her story actually got me emotional - Sometimes Siyeon has a guitar and Hina has a Piano. Some song shave all the members sing a part but Siyeon is the main

I am genuinely so happy you're checking them out

LET'S FCKING GO!

Siyeon is mainly the sole vocal in the beginning of their releases. However the more recent comebacks the other members have more singing lines.

just one small thing.....they are not a girl group. They're a band. It might just sound like semantics but it's very apparent and they've publicly said their goal is to be known as a legit band and not some fad or kpop group with hot girls.....especially Chodan the drummer who has played since age 10 and majored in drums during college. Some might consider that a small thing but it's their desire to define themselves that way

Edward Lee

and if you're going to continue.....since they're a band.....honestly their live performances are far more engaging and fun to watch them play vs their actual MVs. Especially knowing that at the time they released this in October of 2023, Magenta the bassist had only been playing for maybe 6 months and Hina the guitarist literally had picked up a guitar for the first time like 3 months prior

There are videos to their 2 bside for their debut single. Harmony Of Stars https://youtu.be/On6Pm4M-dQQ?si=OnZwHzA-mRjNuqYG Secret Diary https://youtu.be/MPK7oP1--4s?si=-zGF1dbk4vnyO6wo And they do have Out Stage performance on HUP! For Discord and Harmony Of Stars https://youtu.be/Ieb8IOiFfhk?si=oVERyfU38FtcDcXB

but if you end up liking them and want to continue on past their MVs, their channel has an entire series that they released basically almost real time of the entire process of recruiting all the members, training for the debut, etc. Kim Egg purposely went about it the inverse of the kpop model of training for years, finding the right mix, keeping that hidden, and not introducing until they were all ready (often 5-10 years in the making). His budget was like 1/10th of what a kpop gg debut would be so he purposely wanted to introduce them right away and show them improving real time bc he wanted their story to be shared real time and wanted to take advantage of the interest in jrock while it was hot and there was a hole in the market. A HUGE risk for EVERYTHING He also took advantage of their world and the marketing was VERY YT/SNS based and honestly, he's super smart about that. He knows kids in korea really live in that world and not in the official MV/Weekend Show/typical kpop model. I think (in addition to their budget) that is why their videos are all just kinda fine....and it's working so far.....they have 3-4 songs that made it Top 10 in the Gaon charts in 13 months which many solid kpop acts don't even achieve.

PD. where is all began. How Kim Gyeran came up with the idea with Chodan to star a rock band with Bocchi the Rock! anime as their inspiration is just suppose to be a one time project but they blew up in Korea. Both him and Chodan started recruiting the other members one by one. Its a good watch. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBGWktz5-57g8iKS_MSj1N6q0ICE-T6Lq&si=y1xZpfzfjUhVQ4mQ

PD, these are good special clips for one of the B-Sides of this Single Album if you get the chance: Harmony of Stars (special clip) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On6Pm4M-dQQ&ab_channel=QWER Harmony of Stars (Orchestra Version) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AhEIaYYoHg&list=PLVF44YImmYSXR766szRf_WBgakpp-eOlp&index=4&ab_channel=QWER Also, this cover they did. Magenta (the bassist) gets to really shine as a vocalist here and I love her voice. And the drummer is playing guitar and the guitarist is playing keyboard for fun little switch ups lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmX_BTFm9kY&list=PLVF44YImmYSXR766szRf_WBgakpp-eOlp&index=5&ab_channel=QWER

QWER Siyeon was actually a second Korean member of 48 system, the first one was also called Siyeon and was part of SDN48.

QWER is a fascinating story. A youtuber loving Oshi no Ko and putting together a group with 3 influencers and a former j-idol. Their cover of G-Idles Fate was part of the reason the song went viral in Korea and Soyeon did later a cameo in a MV and directed the group for the most recent release

Otto

I like all their music... I don't know if they perform in music shows, but i've seen some idols tiktok challenges with QWER members, as a WAV i particularly remember the GND challenge they did with Nakyoung and Kaede, also, I believe they recently had a first win in a music program. Also in their youtube channel there are videos with how their CEO gathered the members, also hey have been in some youtube shows like in Kangnam's youtube show, also in Chaeyeon's show (Chaeyeon from izone), etc
