Dumb q maybe but why would the hybrids stick out at puberty?

Not a dumb question at all, logic I go by is that how similar looking animals tend to look similar when young, example people mistaking fox kits for cats etc. As well as many animals grow into their colourations or physical traits and can drastically change into young adulthood. Rough example a European Marten and a Red Fox have kids, the kids they have that brown kit colour so they don't stand out as much as they get older if they have more a Marten body type it's odd you're a really red marten and then they may notice other traits that don't line up. Now in Alexander's case he was noticeable as horses don't have cloven hooves etc. This is a world where no one looks for chimeras so if you look like said animal they treat you like that genus till you are too noticeable or do something to get noticed.
