Their new apartment was supposed to be the start to their journey together as actual adults. But now, as Eve’s ethereal form floated helplessly around the room, she regretted coming here. Her physical body was down below, her own eyes staring back at her sister with an eerie unfamiliarity. It was occupied, filled with the presence of a spectral interloper. Eve, now a mere apparition, watched in dismay as the ghost continued to lead her life, fooling everyone while she enjoyed her life in her place.

Eve was powerless, bound by the unseen chains of a magical wooden statue. She knew there was something wrong with it when she discovered it, but by the time she realized that it had a dark energy to it, a strange rush of magic forced her soul into the statue. Now, whenever she tried to drift too far from it, she felt her ghostly self dissipating, tethered to this world by the statue’s mystic hold. She knew what the body thief had been doing, though. Partying and socializing made the possessed Eve stick out like a sore thumb.

Sadly, Eve couldn’t do anything about it. She knew that the wooden statue was the only thing keeping her anchored here, preventing her from disappearing into the void of nothingness. And she also knew that she couldn’t interact with the world around her. She was a mere ghost. She noticed that the body thief repeatedly had to go back to the statue to regenerate their energy, but they definitely had the ability to go farther than Eve could.

Fear had been her companion until today. Ever since her body had been invaded and controlled by a foreign spirit, Eve had been constantly afraid of losing her body forever. What scared her most was the realization that nobody, not even her family, seemed to recognize that she wasn't herself. The ghost had been living her life seamlessly, copying her mannerisms, mimicking her voice.

Just when Eve was beginning to lose hope, a glimmer sparked. Her big sister, who was always observant and perceptive, had begun to notice the major changes. She saw that something wasn’t right, that the girl she knew as her sister was not acting herself.

Slowly, she put together the pieces, culminating in the discovery of the wooden statue and the bizarre situation her sister was trapped in. It was a terrifying realization, but also a beacon of hope, especially when the paranormal investigator confirmed everything. Brad ended up being useless, but it was enough for Josephine to really understand what was going on.

With steely determination and a flicker of fear in her eyes, Josephine moved towards the statue after being confronted by the body thief. Eve watched from above, her transparent form shivering with anticipation and dread. Josephine lit the small wooden statue on fire, and the tiny flame flickered, dancing in the dim light of the kitchen. Eve felt a strange sensation wash over her while she watched the body thief seemingly fall to her hands and knees. She braced herself as Josephine allowed the kitchen counter to be ruined by the intense heat.

The room began to fill with a warm, crackling light while the body thief screamed. A wave of relief swept over Eve, so powerful that it nearly made her ghostly form falter. The sight of the statue disintegrating in the fire brought her an unexplainable sense of liberation. Eve thought that this would be the end, especially when the body thief started to shiver.

But when Josephine rushed over to her body to embrace her, Eve was horrified to realize that she was still a ghost. The body thief hugged her big sister, and an evil smile was on her face. Eve repeatedly tried to fly into her old body, but as the embers of the wooden statue died down, the young woman realized that her time on this world was going to be up. She could already feel her spirit slowly fading. All she could do was watch as the body thief enjoyed her young life.
