Jeff looked at Jenny with disappointment in his eyes. She was his best friend, but she had been acting completely reckless lately. It was the end of the school year, and Jenny had failed every single one of her classes. Jeff couldn't understand what had gotten into her.

Jenny used to be an extremely smart girl, one of the brightest in their class. But now, it was almost like she was a different person. She was constantly partying, drinking, and doing drugs. Jeff had tried to talk to her about it, but she wouldn't listen to anybody.

It was frustrating for Jeff to see his friend throw away her future like this. He had tried to help her in every way he could, but it was like she was beyond help. He tried calling her phone, hoping to get through to her. But Jenny picked up and then hung up the phone after telling him not to call her. This only left Jeff even more disheartened.

As the school year came to a close, Jeff walked across the stage at graduation without seeing his best friend. He couldn't help but feel sad as he looked at his ignored text messages, knowing that she was blatantly ignoring him. He wasn’t even sure what he had done to deserve this, but he was more worried about her life than his own.

After the ceremony, Jeff tried to talk to Jenny again, but she brushed him off, telling him that she had more important things to do. “I don’t know why you’re constantly up my ass,” she would say. “Why are you being so nosey? Stay out of my life.” Jeff was hurt, but he knew that he couldn't force Jenny to change. In the past, he could have pressured her to do things with a few pushes and nudges, but now she was stubborn.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. Jeff didn't see or hear from Jenny much during that time. He had heard rumors that she was still partying and getting into trouble, but he didn't know for sure. He would regularly look on social media to see what was going on, though it was almost like Jenny had completely abandoned her social media accounts. She kept to herself, so Jeff ended up having to accept the fact that people inevitably drift apart.

It’s just how life is.
