“This is so fucking stupid,” Angie whispered while they walked through the library. They decided to come late at night, so there were only a handful of people who could overhear them. “I don’t even want to do this. I haven’t been to a library since high school.”

“We couldn’t have picked a better time to be honest,” Evangeline answered. “I hate coming into the library when it’s jam packed.”

“I feel like she should’ve assigned pre-picked books. She can’t expect us to do all this research when we’re already doing four other classes on top of hers.”

Evangeline and Angie were browsing the shelves of the local library, searching for new books to take home. Their college professor had assigned them a project that involved speed reading up to ten books and making a paper based on anything they’d read. The only catch was that they had to find stories in a similar field, otherwise the paper would have random material.

As they walked through the aisles, Evangeline's eye caught a glint of something shiny on one of the lower shelves. She reached down to pick it up and was surprised to find a large, leather-bound spell book. “Hey, look at this,” Evangeline said. “This stuck out like a sore thumb. It looks so old.”

Excited to see what was inside, the girls quickly flipped through the pages. They were amazed to see that the spells were written in both Latin and English, and many of the incantations were paragraphs upon paragraphs of intricate spells. Angie couldn't believe her eyes - she had never seen anything like it before.

Evangeline, however, was not content to simply look through the pages. She wanted to try one of the spells. Without hesitation, she recited the incantation written on one of the pages out loud. It was one of the lines that was written in Latin. Suddenly, the girls were overcome by a bright light and felt their bodies start to swirl and change. Evangeline tried to say something, but it was almost like she was about to throw up.

And when she opened her mouth, the world went dark.
