When Laila’s roommate suggested volunteering at Help-For-Seniors, the young woman wasn’t expecting life to be so difficult. “Fuck you, Arianna” Laila whispered angrily as she winced painfully. Wiping the sweat from her wrinkled forehead, he struggled to put her groceries away. She was a 20-year-old woman, but she currently inhabited the body of 71-year-old Betty as part of a unique program that aimed to help seniors stay active in society. 

Using a soul swapping machine, two participants could easily switch bodies through electric shocks that funneled souls into opposing vessels along its current. The program involved voluntarily transferring full rights and ownership for a set period of time. Betty was free to do anything she wanted as long as it didn’t involve the death of a volunteer. 

Laila was open to letting Betty do whatever she wanted as long as she did things safely, while Betty was open to letting Laila spend as much of her wealth as she wanted. The older woman was extremely excited when she read that she was allowed to do things sexually. Betty's body, however, was unable to keep up with Laila’s adventurous spirit. She had a lot of money, but her body wouldn’t let her enjoy things to the fullest. She had too many mobility issues to enjoy the outdoors like she used to, such as going to the beach or hiking trails.

As Laila put away the groceries, she rubbed her sore joints, a constant reminder of the challenges that came with being in Betty's body. Despite these difficulties, Laila was grateful for the opportunity to experience life from a different perspective. “She was really happy,” she whispered when she remembered the smile on her old body’s face. “I think this was worth it. She’d looked so sad in the preview pictures.” She couldn't help but wonder how Betty was doing in her young, healthy body.

Laila smiled to herself, imagining Betty exploring the world and enjoying all the things that her mobility issues had once prevented her from doing. She was happy to have made a positive impact on someone's life, even if it meant temporarily dealing with the aches and pains of old age. Laila finished putting away the groceries and went to sit down, taking a moment to appreciate the unique situation she found herself in. She knew that this experience would stay with her for the rest of her life, shaping her perspective and enriching her soul. “Does she feel the same way about this all, though?” Laila croaked to herself. She couldn’t help but wonder how Betty was doing in her own body. She stood up from the couch and was walking towards the kitchen when she felt a weird numbness on the side of her face.
