It’s honestly so creepy out there,” Wendy’s roommate had told her before she left that morning. “I don’t know why you even bother going every day. Just make sure you don’t get jumped or something - you need to drive us to the party tonight.”

“I’m just going for a walk to check out the untended graves like I normally do.” Gale hated the fact that her roommate liked to be spooky, but Wendy didn’t care. She had her beliefs, and obviously, her roommate had her own. That never stopped Wendy from doing whatever she wanted in her life. She spent the first 22 years of her life avoiding things, but the graveyard was one of the best places for her to sort her thoughts.

It also helped that she had a good reason for visiting every day. “She’s waiting for me,” Wendy whispered. She hated making people feel lonely, and that included spirits as well. Wendy had the ability to speak with the dead - she loved speaking with the recently deceased to help calm their souls. Once she arrived at her destination, she stood in the graveyard, taking in the morbid atmosphere while she waited for one particular spirit she’d been visiting for the past two months. She waited until she saw a familiar pink wisp. “Hey, Susanne.”

“You actually came,” Susanne said excitedly as the sun steadily went down. “I thought you were going to be at that party.” The pink wisp circled Wendy, and she immediately felt a comforting warmth moving along her body. It was Halloween, and it was apparently Susanne’s favorite day of the year. “I hope you’re not going to be leaving for it any time soon.”

“I have to drive Gale out to the party, but I probably won’t go into the actual party. I never liked partying.” Wendy shrugged and leaned against Susanne’s gravestone. The ghost was a divorced woman who died alone at age 45 from heart complications. “I was never much of a social person anyway. I’d rather be here.”

Susanne laughed. “I was hoping you’d eventually say that. And on Halloween, of all days.” Before Wendy could ask what she meant, a sharp pain ran up her spine as the pink wisp flew into her mouth. She winced as she felt her fingers beginning to twitch. She had no idea what was going on while an intense heat moved from her throat, down to her stomach, and then out to her arms and legs. She felt like something was expanding inside of her as her eyes rolled to the back of her head.
