Hi my friends! Here comes your preview of todays release on the Mentour NOW channel. I’m sorry about the late access, I thought I had already sent it to you. 😔

Anyway, I would love to hear what you think about it, as always and I hope you are having a fantastic summer!

I’ll be back working with creating videos, full time next week so let’s schedule a zoom hangout then.

Have a great weekend! //Petter

What Happened to the Sonic Cruiser?!

The aircraft you see here is NOT just another fanciful idea that someone once dreamed up. The Sonic Cruiser is something that Boeing worked on extensively, registering patents to its design AND presented it to its airline customers, many of whom took it VERY seriously. And even though it wasn’t built, many of the technologies that would have made it possible and even much of the concept behind it, eventually led to the creation of an actual Boeing aircraft. very enjoyable episode! I appreciated the newsy tidbits about airliner competitions, as well as how seemingly-dead tech and parts were perfected for future models.

At 16:55 you mention "friction temperature related problems". You are repeating the common error that is made in respect of why, for example, the nose of a Concorde (and its Olympus 593 engines) experienced a temperature of 127degC at supersonic cruise and why spacecraft need heatshields to resist the extreme temperatures generated on re-entry. It is not friction with the air that is causing the heating. It is essentially the same effect that you will experience when, for instance, you pump up your bike tyres and the barrel of the pump gets warm. It is the compression process taking place that is heating the air, not friction.
