Totally off topic here but my login does not work properly. 60 Minutes Australia did a major story Sunday 23/6 on Boeing management and treatment of whistle blowers. Back on topic, was there any damage to the aircraft from over speed? Was the aircraft inspected for damage? Cheers. Scott .

This one hits close to home, it’s my local airport and airline. I hope Air Transat’s training is better nowadays!

Of course the elephant in the room is the incredible complexity of the software and hardware systems in modern aircraft. A well trained and knowledgeable pilot these days must possess skills and intellect beyond comprehension. Two walks of life require people with extraordinary ability and nerves of steel: commercial airline pilots and brain surgeons. To have other people's lives in one's hands is far beyond anything I could handle.

From an "industry outsider" perspective, the thing that surprised me most about this is the same thing that surprised me about UA 1722 - Why are there not certain parameter exceedances that require a mandatory TSB investigation? If I understand correctly, safety boards initially didn't think there was a need for an investigation but decided to later. Whether it be speed, G forces, pitch angles...it would seem that there should be some aircraft states that should trigger a flight data review, even if it doesn't appear "significant" or the cause seems "obvious." One of the points of an RCA is to determine if there is anything insidious going on in the background that could contribute to untoward circumstances.
