Q: How do I become a Patron?
A: You can become our Patron by clicking ‘join’ on the specific tier of choice. Each higher tier offers upgraded rewards, ranging from battlemap variations to gaining access to Item Cards

Q: How and when will I be billed?
A: Patreon collects the pledge amount at the beginning of the next month. Don’t worry, you will not be billed if there’s no new content; only with new releases. If we release 2 maps while you’re a Patron, and you pledged into the €2 tier, you’ll be billed for 2 x €2 at the beginning of the next month.
If you’re worried about going over budget, you can easily set up a monthly contribution limit when entering your payment info. You will never be billed more than your entered limit! This way we can keep things transparent and there are no surprises at the beginning of the next month.

Q: How many maps do you intend to publish each month?
A: We intend to release 3 maps each month.

Q: Okay, I still don’t understand how Patreon works. Can you ELI5 it for me?
A:  As a Patron you fall under one of our many tiers. Depending on your tier, your cost per map pack release will be different. You won’t have to pay anything for our already released maps, only for those that are upcoming after you made your pledge.
We intend to release 3 map packs per month. If you pledged into the €3 tier, at the beginning of the next month, Patreon bills you for 3 x €3.
However, you can also set up a monthly contribution limit when entering your payment info. This means that if you pledge for €3 and set a limit to 2 maps per month, you will be billed 2 x €3 = €6 dollars at the start of the new month, regardless of whether we release more maps.
If there are no new releases, you will not be billed.

Q: How do I get the previous maps? Can the maps be purchased separately?
A: All of our Patrons have immediate access to ALL of our map series containing hundreds of battlemap variations in our map library.
Pledge €2+ and you also gain immediate access to our Item Cards library containing dozens of Item Cards ranging from dragonslaying swords, frost bombs, and pocket dimension salesmen to spellbound books and featherwalk boots.
You can also purchase our older maps on Roll20 Marketplace.

Q: What rewards do I get for supporting you?
A:  Aside from our unconditional love, Patrons receive high quality maps in PDF and VTT standard! That includes ALL map variants, gridded and gridless versions for varied use, and all-exclusive Item Cards. Check out our pledge tiers to specifically see what rewards each tier offers.
As our Patreon grows and we reach goal after goal, there are more benefits to unlock.

Q: What are Item cards and how do I use them?
A:   Our Item Cards are objects you can find in our world that accompany the series we tackle that month. This may aid you in visualizing the world and its creations better: add items for effects on your players, simply add them to your treasure box or use them as quest items.

Q: Can I commercially use your content?
A: We have a tier on our Patreon called 'Master Chronicler,' which gives access to a Commercial Use License. There's a lot of formal speech in this license, but what it boils down to: as long as you are an active Patron within that tier, you can make use of and sell our content as long as significant artistic value has been added (i.e. an entire adventure, etc.), it doesn't conflict with our own marketplaces, and isn't harmful to the Eightfold Paper brand. If you are unsure about whether you need this license, want to buy-out licenses straight up, or have any other impending questions, feel free to reach out and we'll get back to you promptly.

Q: Can I stream your content?
A: As a Patron you are allowed to use our content in actual play for streaming or whatnot as long as no significant money is made off our hard work and we are properly credited (name + URL). If you are planning on making a significant amount of money through streaming our content, you would need a Commercial Use License (see the above question).

Q: How did you come up with a name for your Patreon?
A: Liam chose Eightfold Paper because we wanted the name to be fun and memorable.
There's an old myth that claims you can't fold a single sheet of paper in half more than seven times. Each time you make a fold, the thickness of the paper doubles. As creators striving to reach new heights, we want to be the paper that has been folded eight times.

Q: Who are you?
A: We’re Alan and Liam! A duo of passionate artists specialized in making digital maps for tabletop RPG games like DnD, Pathfinder, and others.
Liam: I've been working in the visual design field for several years and  had the opportunity to sharpen my skills at video game companies and digital production agencies like Sony Guerrilla Games and MediaMonks.
I’ve also done work on all kinds of freelance projects in which I specialized in concept design, matte paintings, illustrations, and storyboards of all kinds.
I grew up in the era of Super Nintendo RPGs and transitioned to many other consoles alike as time passed. All the while I was looking for an outlet for my own creativity until I was introduced to tabletop RPGs. They have been an important part of my life ever since. Unfortunately, I now have less time for extensive campaign sessions. I still wanted to feel involved when my friends asked me to make a battlemap for their session. I loved it so much that it was here that I discovered that I could keep doing this… but then full-time, here on Patreon.

Alan: I've been in the games industry for years and befriended Liam years before in college. We even worked together for a little while as concept artists at Sony Guerrilla Games! After going our separate ways, we kept in touch as good friends all the way till now. I've been involved with 3D modeling, lighting, concept art, and illustrations for a good part of my career.
I've always known about DnD, but never dared try it until Liam called me up one day to play a campaign. He (not literally) dragged me into the Dungeons & Dragons world, and I haven't regretted it since. Considering our past experiences and everything it led to, it truly feels as if it was only natural that we transitioned into Eightfold Paper.
