In many ways the young princess' kingdom was progressive: she was taught maths, science as well as martial skills like swordsmanship and archery just like her younger brother. Yet when it came to who would take the throne, her father was painfully archaic. It didn't matter that she was politically astute and cunning, and absolutely devoted to her people and her brother was...well not. All that mattered to the king was being able to continue their family line. And although the princess was an avid fencer, she was not that kind of swordsman. But as I said, she was dedicated to her people. And that dedication led her to undergo a dangerous spell that would transform her into the form she needed to claim her rightful place on the throne and guide her people into a new era of prosperity. Of course, she didn't heed the witch's warning about certain side-effects or urges that would come with the spell.
