I think this isn't as bad as some of Season 7. And... that's about it. Only one thing I would say, though, in the episode's defence. Sam doesn't need to have a reason for his coulrophobia(sp?). It's a phobia. Most of them don't really make a lot of sense. If they did, they wouldn't be phobias, they would just be sensible and proportional fears of a genuine threat. (and yes, if it's an episode I don't like very much or if I don't have much time, I just skip to your comments at the end, so I'm always listening to them!) ETA: I think there are not very many SPN episodes which drop below 8 on IMDb unless they are being spammed by a particular section of the fandom which has not got what it wants (not always the same section - the longer the show went on, the more fractured the fandom became). Sometimes the episodes got spammed because people didn't like what happened, not because the episodes weren't good. All that you can tell is that where an episode reaches a rating of 9 or over, there's a large degree of consensus.

I haven't read the other comments, so don't know if you've been told yet about Sam and clowns. Yes, Sam's clown phobia has come up before. Episode 2 of season 2 we first learned about it. The case of the killer clown monster.

I'm going to agree with you on the ratings, and add that that one particular section was usually from the same side. They're the ones still causing a ruckus to this day...even though most of us have moved on. Full disclosure: I was on the Bro side most of my time in the fandom (and yes, the bro accounts who tend to be infamous are probably my IRL friends)...we never bothered with IMBD unless it was to laugh at the people who thought it mattered to us. Because it never really did. With one exception...we absolutely showed up for Carry On.

HA! My husband heard Greg say "Wincest" and screamed "Eff Yeah!". I'm all about the bros and don't really care if that's your thing, but I find it fascinating how many men I know play around with it. Keep on doing you, Greg...I appreciate the hell out of your authenticity. And the jokes, too. The actress who played the manager is Jennifer Spence, and I agree..she's great. There's a whole group of Canadian actors who were cast for Continuum (which was a big hit in Canada) that show up in a lot of other Science Fiction series. Many of them have had roles in SPN, too. Jennifer has really done well. She's been working steadily for many years. Lastly...I ALWAYS watch the commentary until the end.

I have a strong fondness for this episode. It's among the set that I rewatch when I just want a run of SPN comedy -- that's mostly what comes through to me here. Sam's clown phobia (though not funny for those who have real-life phobias) cracks me up here, and the timing cuts leading up to Right Friggin' Now. We also get rare and valued (by me) conversations about their childhood. And Dean laughing at the end. :)

Same. This episode is just one I like to watch if I need a pick-me-up at the end of a bad day. It's fun and watching them laugh at the end makes me happy.

Yeah, so I actually really like this episode. Yes, it's cheesy as hell, but it's fun and I can overlook some of the flaws when it keeps me entertained for an hour.

This is a perfectly fine episode for me. I actually like the little personal touches of like Sam's clown phobia, and Dean's Germ phobia. For me it adds dimensions to make them feel more real. I also liked the way this sort of overly happy person turned out to be the bad guy. Dean really needed that laugh at the end, and seeing him be that happy for a little while is special after the season he has been having. Only a couple more until episode 17, which is a personal favorite for the season, and I think you guys will hopefully enjoy.
