I can’t speak for trans people but I had no problem with this episode and even making him the villain didn’t strike me as malicious against trans people because anybody can be a bad guy. But l understand if others think differently. The pineapple was a perfume bottle on Robert’s dresser in the shape of a pineapple and the pizza at his house may of had pineapple chunks

2021-07-15 04:25:51 I feel like this is more an issue with how people diagnosed with DID are portrayed than people who are trans. Yes, the Regina personality did want gender reassignment but the two other personalities we were shown (Robert & Martin) identified as male which is where the conflict stemmed from. Realistically there could be many more personalities that didn't even present during the episode that identify as they/them or perceive themselves as different ages or races than the body they are in currently is.

I also can’t speak for the trans community but I also had no problem with this episode and I really hope it didn’t offend anybody. I really didn’t consider him a transgender person. For me, this was a person with a psychological disorder and one of the personalities was a woman but I think that’s different (in my extremely limited understanding of things) than an actual transgender person. So I did feel for the time that it was very positive for the psychiatrist to speak of it so matter-of-factly as an understood medical issue. I just wish they had made it clear that the psychiatrist had missed the psychological problem and that this was not actually a transgender issue. Other than that I really enjoyed this episode. Again, I have a limited understanding so please don’t kill me in the comments.

I could speak to annoying lengths about DID. This episode did hit a pain point for DID representation, the evil alter. Like many people with a mental illness, someone with DID is more likely to be the victim of violence than a violent person. There are alters that aren't the most pleasant people to be around but they are serving their purpose. Hopefully, the evil alter trope will stop. Wins for the episode, body dysmorphia is a real thing someone with DID deals with. Even if the body is the same gender as the alter it still isn't always how they look in the inner world. I appreciate how open and positive Shawn and Gus treated Regina and dealing with the whole situation. I appreciated Gus clarifying the name was DID because many people don't know the name changed in the 90s. Gus' comment on how rare it is, it is hard to get accurate numbers because DID is meant to run covertly so you could go through life never realizing you have it. Looking at statistics of people currently diagnosed with DID it is about the same number of people diagnosed with bulimia.
