Also In the background we see a world map and its the same as our world map. Just noticed on this watch through.

I think the first half of the episode was the strongest i have seen this show to be . Be it on technical merits,. like shot framing , use of shadows and overal lighting , character animations and just overall directing and presentation was just so damn good, The use of cgi is also really fantastic , I personally only know two anime studios that can blend and use CG at such level , And these studios been in the game for much longer . And just the character writing too, the focus on Don , his realization ,struggle and frustration and finally acceptances was so well animated and performed by the voice actor . I really liked that realization that Don being frustrated and angry with the trio has more to do with himself and the fact the he knows that partially they were right and just inabilty to do something . It just so well done . I just really like self aware characters , and in anime especially since its a bit more rare to do it well. Also , Phil is just to damn cute to be suspected of anything , look at that kid .lol

Studio Orange (Houseki no kuni, Beastars) Ufotable

Edgar

Yeah, ufotable was one of em. The other was wit studios. Haven't seen studio orange shows yet., also they are fully cgi, right. Not blending 2d and 3d

Thanks for clearing that up haha. Phil is the most adorable, but in the same breath.. almost too adorable 😮🤔 And that’s good to know! Did was it a map-map or a globe? I feel like I vaguely remember seeing geography, but I don’t think I registered it’s our same continents.

I think I'd agree! They've been consistently blowing me away with their marriage of animation styles & what they've been able to use them to express. Felt like every aspect of this episode was coalescing & bolstering one another. Feels pretty forward-thinking, at least in my limited experience. Would love to see what some of these other studios y'all are talking about have to offer because this is easily the most impressive melding of 2-D & 3-D I've experienced so far. And yeah, I really respected/appreciated their choice with Don. I was real worried he was gonna get on my nerves early-on 😅but they did a great job with the nuances. And that's interesting to know, too, because this did feel pretty sophisticated in that respect. Not to say other shows don't have quality or nuanced character moments, but I dunno. That whole sequence just read as really cathartic and real to me - perhaps something you pointed out in the self-awareness aspect.. 🤔 As for little Phil... that is EXACTLY why I am suspect lol. That kid is so freaking adorable lol. But I'll be quite pleased to be wrong 😝
