Excellent reaction and discussion. I'll have to go chase down all the episodes, hints, facts and foreshadowing, but when you rewatch this show, knowing what you know now. It's been there all along. In the Repairs episodes, with the ghost guy. Coulson asks May what she told him. "I told him the same thing you told me, You have to let the girl go." Other times, when there is a discussion going on about dealing with a powered person or someone under mind control, May will say things like. Don't underestimate the situation, or it's hard to tell friend from foe, etc. That kind of thing happened a bunch. I like the way they not only give you the surprise reveals, but also that they let them linger so you can, as you said, "feel", the emotions and connect with the characters and what they are feeling. If you want to get one more teaser from this episode, keep reading. I'll even give enough of a hint so you can determine for yourself if you want to continue. Finally, I'll space down so you can avoid this if you want. Not a spoiler because those watching at the time and discussing things on Reddit were able to recall this but..... Theta protocol has been mentioned this season by Coulson. Talking to Koenig, seemingly an offhand thing, but he actually did mention it already.

Damn I had a stressful ass COVID-19 filled day and I needed this now more than ever. Been looking forward to this episode.

So Raina is the clairvoyant lol. You are correct in how connected everything is this episode and I’d like to mention some things that others haven’t. Remember in 2x4 (when Agent 33 was wearing May mask first time) Coulson figured out it was May and he said it was the little things that tipped him off. Agent 33 held Coulson’s hand in the car when talking about the mission so Coulson knew May would never do that so casually . (Because after Bahrain she wasn’t that affectionate because of the ptsd) Also In Bahrain Andrew told May some advice about what to do when she sees the little girl. In 2x12 (when the team discovers skyes powers) May does exactly what Andrew said to do that day. He says to run (she does with skye) and get down to her level because she would be scared.

To this day still one of my favourite episodes. May is my favourite character and I love episodes where we get to see more of her. People always say she’s tough and unfeeling and here we get to see part of why that is. The absolute gut punch when you realise its the girl and what May has to do, especially when May and Andrew were planning on having a family. Loved seeing more of the May and Andrew relationship Ming Na Wen and Blair Underwood have such fantastic chemistry. Also I just love Kyle McLachlan he brings such an infectious energy to the show.

Melinda! Loved this episode. Now we wait for 19. A funny about episode 19...I've seen two different reactions from major channels where they exclaimed out loud how they couldn't believe that it was SHIELD that they were watching. Love how this show evolved over time. And we're just getting started on the path to greatness.

This is one of my favorite episodes of the show. Melinda competes as my favorite character from the show with Skye so any ep that focuses on Melinda is a plus for me. An ep that focuses primarily on both Melinda and Skye? Sign me up! I love that this episode really gave us a chance to see so many different sides to Melinda that we rarely if ever get to see. I also really loved the attention to her state of mind following that traumatic event. You could really see all the dominoes falling down after: the touch PTSD, the implications of her marriage dissolving, the way she must’ve felt about possibly having her own children, and of course her transferring to that gray cubicle where Coulson initially came to see her. It’s like we saw her entire life fall apart in scenes lasting lest than a couple minutes. For the Skye side of things, I love how the show describes her powers using the science of molecular vibrations. Since every molecule in the universe is always vibrating except at absolute zero (which is physically impossible), she will be able to affect literally anything/anyone by controlling the vibrational speed of their molecules. The applications are super wide ranging although like Jiaying said, potentially very destructive if she’s not careful.

I mean this episode is amazing and you pretty much nailed it on your commentary. Props to the child actress she was extremely creepy and played such a dark scene perfectly. As for Raina, she turned out to be ...clairvoyant. Seems she got what she wanted after all 😅

Slight spoilers for a future season, but May not holding hands at this point isn't because of PTSD. It's because now she's just more of a stiff person. She holds hands with Coulson and maybe a few others in the later seasons. So I mean she's able to hold people's hands now she just doesn't because she has changed.

she rarely that vulnerable anymore because of ptsd. So it is still at a point were doing that is outside the normal May behavior. She held wards hand in 1x13 when skye was shot and that was a big moment to see her do that. She wouldn’t do it casually like Agent 33 did So it sends up red flags.
