Thanks for your question, ELLE B.!!!

What do you think, Patron-O-Jects?  There's no shortage of jump scares out there -- what are some of your favorites??

Jani Salminen

The sloth victim in Se7en got me pretty bad. Sinister had some pretty good ones too.

I know EXACTLY which scene in Hill House you’re talking about and it made me jump out of my skin too!! I appreciate good jump scares more when there are no music cues.

Elle B.

YES! Se7en is one of my favorite films and that scene is still hard to watch for me!

Got that is SUCH an unsettling scene.. out of an incredibly unsettling movie lol. 😅😱

Edgar

i think what got me was, the total daylight kitchen scene , it was just so in your face yet only for a moment . I fuckin jumped and i was watching in the middle of the day , lmao.

Definitely Hill House episode 8!! When I was a kid, Robbie & The Clown scene from Poltergeist. Several scenes from Alien, the Clapping scene in The Conjuring, Not really jump scares but EVERYTHING in Twin Peaks scared the shit outta me! when Sara Palmer walks into Laura’s room and sees BOB crouching at the end of Laura’s bed, anytime Leland Palmer bursts into song, every time Laura screams...and on and on... but my number one scary moment of any show or movie ever is a scene with Maddy Ferguson, Laura’s cousin, and I can’t say anymore in case anyone still wants to watch it, but it still haunts me to this day.

I feel like that's what makes it all-the-more classic haha. Daylight onscreen, daylight outside, and it's still freaky 😱that's actually been a goal of mine, to write a horror terrifying horror flick that mostly takes place in daylight (or at least LIGHT rather than shadows).

Haha thinking this is definitely one of those "if you know, you KNOW" kinda scenes. 😅😱

I'm not gonna lie... I had to stop reading this comment half-way through, because I haven't seen all of Twin Peaks yet 😅😫(which I realize is a sin & entirely my fault by now lol), but I knew you'd pick up on Hill House haha. Definitely some freaky-ass moments in Poltergeist, even still! Good calls re: Alien & The Conjuring as well. That James Wan knows how to craft a solid jump.. glad to hear Twin Peaks will continue to be strange & unsettling, though. Excited to continue!!

Fuck! I never usually give spoilers....unless.... Whiskey Brain = Much more Overtly Demonstrative Descriptive Behavior...aka Vomit Mouth. SOOOORRRRRRYYYYYYYYYY! Can you redact in Patreon? Lol

thereelrejects

Hahaha aaaall good, mate! 'Long as you're havin' a good time 😝and YES! To my knowledge you can both redact AND edit commentssss!

Edgar

I think daylight horror is supremely hard to do, but when its done well , its super effective . I think midsommar could fall into that categorry , but its less about jumpscares and more that unnerving gradual dread and alienation of characters . Also theres sorta like dream like quality to it too , which helps .

Idk how I missed this post, but the final 30 seconds of Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal HAUNTS ME TO THIS DAY. Go find that one and watch it if you haven’t seen it. 🕷

Come to think of it, I don't think either of us has 😮not for lack of interest, though. Will have to track it down!!
