Supernatural is my favorite show. Writing wise, there are shows that are perfect throughout. Breaking Bad being my favorite second show, although objectively speaking it is "better" than Supernatural. Breaking Bad is just perfect serialized television. And if Supernatural HAD been super serialized, I would've probably thought it was better. But of course it has super long seasons as network TV usually does. So, while it might be biased, I always give it a pass. Yes, we get those episodes that start out with Dean and Sam talking about the overarching story, and just saying something like "we have no leads, so let's hunt whatever we can" kind of dialogue. And you guys usually point it out. But I give them points for trying. They try to stay true to that serialized "spirit", but they have long seasons and a lot of episodic episodes. So they kinda have to do those. And I give them props for just going out there and making some wacky ass one off episodes. I enjoy this episode. Dracula speeding off in his little bike is hilarious 🤣 and yeah keep in mind that Kripke only had 5 seasons loosely planned. He was definitely planning to be out after 5, so while the show was picking up traction again and there was plenty of people willing to go past season 5, a lot of the crew was still facing that season 5 "end". They probably weren't sure what would happen after Kripke finished the main story and left. Yes the ratinhs came back up, but could the show continue without him? At the time, I think they just went ahead with some of their craziest ideas becasue it was a possibility that these were the final two seasons. And even after they kept going, well the seasons are really long. They always have room for some random episodes. I've just come to accept this as a byproduct of semi serialized Network TV shows. As a side note, this is why episode 6 of the Mandalorian bugged me so much. I LOVE that series, but with only 8 episodes in the season, by the time it got to episode 6 it had been three episodic and (almost) one off episodes in a row. Which dampened my enjoyment of that episode with Bill Burr. I was really annoyed there wasn't any main story. So yeah that YouTube vid you guys made about Serializee VS Episodic television comes to mind. It really made me think about super long season shows like Supernatural which sometimes has 23 episodes a season, vs shows like The Mandalorian, which is 8 episodes but somehow ended up being not super serialized. So yeah I'm now just thinking about that stuff lol
