I mean, for me technically everything English language is a 'foreign film' so I'd have to think about an answer for a bit. If I were to recommend any films from my own country that you might be interested in or that were successful, I'd pick 'Goodbye Lenin', which is the film that made Daniel Brühl famous, and 'Lives of Others'. Interestingly both deal with the former East Germany regime in very different ways. Oh, and the series 'Dark' on Netflix. With subtitles tho, I watched a English dub to try it out, and it's horrendous.
