I'm about to ramble... It's crazy because if you think back to the homunculi deaths they're all pretty ironic. Lust dies at the hands of a known womanizer while on her knees, Gluttony gets eaten, Envy commits suicide when it's revealed he's been jealous of humans the whole time, Sloth dies once he puts an effort into a fight, Wrath dies at piece after the weapon he's used to kill so many people costs him his life, Pride dies once he is willing to give up his pride and try to take the vessel of a lower life form, and Greed dies once he's gotten all he could've asked for. Father's death sequence is fascinating. The portals of truth that everyone has is supposed to represent the knowledge they've obtained. If you look at Father's door you'll see it's completely blank, implying that though he was on this search for knowledge, he never learned a thing about the world. He was misguided to think that removing the seven sins from his body would help him reach perfection. All he did was remove parts of himself that could help him learn and grow. All he did by removing them was stagnate his progress and it doomed him. Without those human qualities he was...nothing. I'm 100% with you on your thoughts of Ed's conversation with The Truth. The decision he made was ultimately a culmination of every experience he's ever had. Alchemy can be a great thing and Ed is a fantastic alchemist, but he thought he could be above a human by using its power. Time and time again the world gave him harsh reminders that he's just a regular person. Almost 60 episodes later and the thought of not saving Nina is still on his mind. There's so much in life that alchemy can't account for, like the people he's met on this journey, and of course, getting Alphonse back. It's the right sacrifice and The Truth rewarded him for figuring that out. I don't know how many times I've watched this episode but Hohenheim always makes me cry. His moment with Ed was a plea to let him be the father he always wanted to be. His character reaches its end when Ed is finally able to acknowledge him as his father. Once he goes to Trisha's grave I just lose it every time. He finally came home like he said he would, but now he actually wants to live. Easily one of my favorite anime deaths. *Sigh* Only one more episode left. It's been a wild ride lol

The moment he gave up his alchemy to save his brother and the Main Theme OST kicks in, I knew this series would go down as one of my most beloved pieces of media. Because I couldn't even think of what he was going to give up when I was watching for the first time and once he said that it all just clicked. All 63 episodes. And the fact that they even called back to Nina from episode 4 UGH SO GOOD. Everything you said about his arc is correct. And honestly, any scene where someone is talking to a dead loved one in a cemetery will make me cry, but Hohenheim getting to tell Trisha that they did it, that his plan worked and that loving her was the most fulfilling thing in his life RUINED me. It was me who reminded you to watch the credits of this episode and the next! In this one, the credits were mostly scenes you've already seen of Hohenheim's story but I love it as a tribute to him and his character. The credits on the next one are like an epilogue though! So keep your eyes peeled!!

I never noticed the door thing until someone in a youtube comment section pointed it out to me! I love the details in this story.
