"The Bells"

If you watched the Reaction Highlights version, you'll definitely notice that throughout the Reaction here there was a lot of "reaction" moments and commentary that we didn't even re-visit in the review, that's here :)

I loved your reactions guys! I totally agree that they lost the surprise factor this season which really sucks especially with the finale approaching. The writing is blunt and will be that blunt even for the finale because they don't have the books anymore, which also sucks hahaha I still loved how they portrayed this chaotic end-of-the-worldly moments, there some pretty cool shots! (I think that there will be a surprise extra episode hahahaha) I don't know where this is heading anymore hahahaha I loved Emilia's acting it was awesome but as you said and I agree, her character arc is destroyed completely (the actual massacre ;p hahaha) I guess we'll have to wait and see what the finale is all about, right? PS. Cute cat!!! :D

Oh boy...I loved the reaction as always. We do have some stuff to talk about though. I've had a love/hate relationship with this season, but I've generally enjoyed the majority of what I've seen. There are some logical lapses and lazily written plot points that irritate me, but the character moments have done well to keep me invested. A lot of the characters feel completely mishandled in this particular episode. Dany is the biggest problem by far. I'm not sure how I feel about the decision to go full on mad queen. I understand her not stopping when the bell rang, I just don't believe it's being faithful to her character for her to burn an entire city of innocent people. I'm with you guys when you said it would've made more sense if she flew straight to Cersei and torched her. It would've paid off the revenge Dany wanted for Missandei and gave us a Cersei death that would've had her looking on helpless in terror for the first time in the series. It felt like they leaned way too far in on this idea and didn't earn her being that spiteful. Tyrion suddenly being an idiot isn't cool either. He's been making decisions with obvious outcomes and acting surprised when those outcomes play out. This feels like a completely different character from previous seasons without a believable arc to get him here. Jaime is the weird one because I actually thought what they did with him was fine. He never fell out of love with Cersei so I can see him making the choice to go back to her. I never believed he would actually kill her either because that honestly doesn't make any sense. He was the only one who died in this episode that got a fitting death. Cersei's been one of the better characters in the series and I loved that they put her in a position where her only choices were to remain in denial or admit defeat. I just think they tonally fucked up her entire death. Trying to give Cersei a tragic death is ambitious, they just missed the mark completely. I almost laughed when she said she didn't want to die. I understand why they had Arya there too. She witnessed firsthand what Dany was doing to the city and all of the innocent people that were being murdered. This is going to be the fuel that Arya needs to kill Dany and I'm honestly all for it. A lot of people think Jon is going to land up doing it but he's been reduced to nothing but a spectator in this season. For the first 2 episodes he was the only one who wasn't an idiot because he realized that titles meant nothing in the face of an undead army. Since then, he's been in the background and says the same lines over and over to avoid taking the spotlight again. It wasn't all bad though. I commend the actors for really going for it despite the material they've been given. Emilia Clarke was one of the weaker actors early in the series but she is owning it now. Plus the cinematography was beautiful here and the technical work has been a consistent highlight for season 8. For some reason I feel like this will pivot into Sansa being Queen. I think everyone is going to point to Jon to take the throne and he's going to say there's someone better for the job. The seeds have been planted for it and I wouldn't be surprised. I don't know how they can stick the landing at this point, I just hope they have one more good episode in them.
