Thanks for the question, Bannawit Pimpanuwatt!!!

Full question is:

Since you've now seen quite a few animes, I wonder which one do you like watching more NOW: Anime or Western animated series? Pros and cons for both in your opinion? 😊

I have never seen a anime series what so ever.

Thank you for answering the questions lads 😘 Certainly an interesting discussion. As someone who grew up in Asia, I'm pretty much oblivious to animated series of the West haha (of course I've heard of the popular ones on discussions over the Internet). Any starting point for me? May give one a go at some point 😊

2021-07-15 05:18:33 No problem! Appreciate the question 😊Now you've got me curious haha, which of our shows would you hear about over there? I can certainly tell you which ones I might recommend haha, but I'd also want to know more about your taste so I've got a better shot of making an actual recommendation haha. There's a show we have called Bojack Horseman I like a lot which is.. pretty zany and absurd at first, but that blossoms into a pretty poignant character study/exploration of mental health. This is kind of the direction our more cutting-edge animated series are taking at the moment- absurd & edgy with the humor, but surprisingly philosophical or emotionally affecting haha. Rick & Morty does something similar in a darker, more science fiction kind of way.. (and also more overtly absurd lol.) But again haha - what kind of stuff are you generally into, just sensibility-wise?

Can't really say much about what we hear about in Asia as I don't follow news about animated series at all (not even animes tbh). At least in Thailand, when people say "animated series", it almost automatically means Japanese animes. However, I really liked Kim Possible (lol) and Scoopy Doo when I was young. And does Tom and Jerry count? 😂 Ooooh, interesting. Will have a look at the two you mentioned. The name Rick & Morty has been thrown around quite a lot the past few years so I guess it's time to check it out. About what I'm into, actually kinda hard to say. I generally like shows with cool action or sci-fi vibes. But I've become much more interested in shows that explore aspects of human life, basically straight up dramas. Not really narrowing anything down for you here I suppose. I'm open to anything 😊

That makes sense, especially with the proximity. And I'd say Tom & Jerry counts haha 😂 Not the most sophisticated, obviously, but it's definitely of the more classic variety of Looney Toons type stuff. And we definitely got some love for Kim Possible and Scooby Doo out here. I feel like between those 3, you've got some pretty notable series from a few different moments in animation here. And judging by your taaaaste (at least as you've described it here), I think those two might not be bad places to start. Both are definitely indicative of a certain kind of western humor, but Bojack does a pretty great job of becoming something just as resonant as a character drama. Rick and Morty also has elements of this, but especially as that show goes on, it'll aim pretty heavily toward your action/sci-fi inclinations. R&M's fanbase can sometimes put people off, but I get a lot out of it. And then some other titles I was thinking of... King of the Hill has always been a favorite. It's a bit more grounded & quirky with Mike Judge's singular brand of wry, but knowing humor. Bob's Burgers has also gotten pretty big on the sort of mainstream episodic tip (think the same block that would run The Simpsons). Clone High was a pretty cool one that lasted for a season back in the day - and if ya know Phil Lord & Chris Miller, that's early work for them. And then there's stuff that's aimed more toward kids, but that has a lot of adult-accessible stuff like Steven Universe or Adventure Time.. And while I've seen precious little of it, I've often heard great things about Samurai Jack, which I've always gotten the sense has a distinct, more patient tone than a lot of traditional western animated series... That's one I'd like to check out soon. Anyway.. sorry if I've overloaded you here 😅there's always more where that came from if you're interested, though. Curious to hear what you think of some of these!!

Wow, thank you! Definitely a longer list than what I expected. You know what, I think I'm gonna check them all out. Maybe a few episodes each and see if I like any of them. Western humour is fine for me since I've now been in the UK for 4 years. Also, I believe I've seen an episode or two of Samurai Jack way back when. Not remember a thing though.

Haha no problem! Hope I didn't overwhelm ya 😅but did want to provide a decent range of things. And by all means! Would love to hear your thoughts on whichever you decide to look at. I know Bojack, specifically, really begins to blossom after episode 6 (that one's pretty serial in terms of structure). That time in the UK should definitely help some - what part have you been living in? As for Samurai Jack.. I feel like I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 episodes waaaay back when it first aired, but I know it's a show a lot of people grew to dearly love. I don't think I quite "got it" at the time, since it's a lot more patient, moody, & visual than a lot of our cartoons (especially, again, at the time). As I've grown older it's gotten me more and more curious. They came back after over a decade to complete the series with a final season and the footage we saw from that looked INCREDIBLE.
