Q&A HALLOWEEN

Nice santoku knife :) The butter knife strikes me with more fear though lol, blunt hurts so much more. Thoroughly enjoyed your break downs and explanation of each choice guys.

Hah! Didn't realize it had a specific name, but thank you! Only trouble is whatever material the handle is/was made of is... starting to peel and make a mess lol. But generally speaking I think I'd agree that the butter knife would be... marginally worse.. haha. Glad you enjoyed the vid, mate!! Always love a chance to talk Halloween haha

Tis my favourite holiday, I always say it's my Christmas lol :) yeah the wooden handles are much better for the santoku, but still one of my faves for everyday use. I have my knives slightly weighted too for ease of use, I'm quite heavy handed so it helps plus it makes them good for throwing and .... protection shall we say lol

Haha likewise!! I always wanna keep it going thru November and just make it October II until at least Thanksgiving lol. And good to know! If and when we wind up getting a new one, I'll keep an eye out for wooden handles. ...sounds like you're pretty handy with a blade there! One day you'll have to give us some.. pointers 😉

Gladly, due over to L.A. beginning of next year so can do a chocolate and cooking masterclass lol. Love blades, trained in hand held weaponry close quarters combat, don't get to train much these days now I'm disabled but blades are versatile so can do bits and bobs still :) Will get you a few decent ones from my commercial suppliers, will be cheaper than any store bought of similar quality, my knives cost upwards of £150 each but there are cheaper alternatives that are just as good. Yup, no thanksgiving in UK so I make Samhein (Halloween) last as long as possible lol usually till December begins haha

Haha I like the way you think, man! 🎃🎄 And that sounds like an awesome trip, man!! Would love to do some actual cooking classes one day, refine my skillz. Either way, sounds like you ought'a take up some sort of mantle being a chef by day and a knife-wielding badass by night haha. Sounds like we could stand to learn all kinds of things from you 😂 And that'd be awesome, man!! Please don't break the bank or anything, but we're always up for quality food equipment haha. That's gotta be right handy having a commercial supplier for that kinda stuff. And damn, dude!! You must have some crazy ass knives in your repertoire!

Just a few under my belt yeah lol. Well I have been a chef/chocolatier since I was a child lol, raised in kitchens, worked in the royal kitchens etc. My accident changed all that now though so just focusing on videos and the like for now. Besides, no chef gets a night off lol, very demanding hours. I still do what I can though 🙂 adrenaline helps a lot to push on past the pain to train or even cook a meal on bad days, but I'm viking so never stop fighting 🙂

All I can think reading this is "You merely adopted the kitchen... I was born in it.. Molded by it!" haha Does definitely seem like a demanding lifestyle - plus being over all that heat all the time!! What was it like working in the royal kitchen?? Even now, though, I very much admire your viking spirit! Do you cook for yourself often these days or more on the here-and-there?

I do when I physically can, still make things for friends too like bacon jam, sourdough, chutney etc lol. Still do a bit of chocolate work when I'm able too but usually just for gifting really. The royal kitchens were amazing, learned so much and the family themselves are amazing people. I worked at Highgrove which is a home of Prince Charles, he has huge gardens where he grows his own produce etc and he's very passionate about it so it was nice to learn about seasonal produce and plot to plate mentality. Did fishmongery and butchery too so was just an amazing learning experience. Bit surreal having Charles William and Harry just randomly show up in the kitchen and laugh and joke with us all, great guys.

Love the bane reference lol might have to use that 😁

I think "chocolate work" is my new favorite phrase haha. And I don't think I've ever had bacon jam, that sounds delicious!! If you wind up back in LA (and are feeling up to it), we'll have to hastle you to try some of your concoctions! And that sounds incredible... and surreal, haha yeah. That's really cool to hear the Prince is into that sorta stuff and that they were generally cool to just come down and share a chuckle with you guys. I swear man, one'a these days you'll have to write down a tome of your experiences into some epic Norse memoir poem.

Will gladly make you some tasty concoctions. Bacon jam is amazing on burgers or with baked camembert or salmon etc. Haha memoirs of the northman lol. Will send you a few chapters if/when it's in progress

thereelrejects

That'd be awesome, man! And just reading this I can already phantom-taste that jam on a variety of hypothetical foods 😅gonna have to find a way to get some sooner than later, I think! And yessss haha, please write the Memoirs of a Northman. I'm not the world's fastest reader, but I'd happily weigh in! 😝
