Gluttony hulks out in this one, so suffice to say, it's preety friggin' freaky...  meanwhile Mustang makes an attempt to suss out his allies down at Central.

The direction was beautiful in the closing minutes of the episode with Mustang. The flashback to Grumman and him playing chess was important. Grumman told him that he lost once he was sure he had won. When he talked to Raven he was sure he had an ally so he said too much. Now he's in a losing position.

I thought the dialogue was less nuanced than usual, especially with Hawkaye and Mustang Car ride scene . IDK just felt a bit forced. And the jumping between three places, kinda messed with the actual flow of the episode . At least to my eyes. Tho The end with Mustang that was a real good flipping the tables , The way it was framed and how music was done , real good . Maybe due to last few eps being so solid , this one just does not have the oomph

Ahh, that's a great point! I think I was so caught up in it all, that the nuance slipped by me 😅Makes it all the more heartbreaking now that I think about it.. haha. Love the level of thought and detail they put into this show.

I think I feel ya. Definitely felt like some big things happened, but I didn't walk away from this one with quite the high of the last few. In hindsight, it feels a bit on the chaotic side. Playing it back too, I can see where you're coming from with the dialogue in the car ride. And the reversal at the end was heartbreaking - especially (as was pointed out above) when you realize that the chess flashback kinda foreshadows it. Not a favorite by any stretch, but I feel like even the lesser episodes of this show give me a good amount more than the lesser episodes of certain others.

The scenes from the opening at 0:57 and 1:08 are done by Yutaka Nakamura the animator who did the end of the Deku vs Todoroki fight in MHA.

After further research it looks like he was the key animator for the Second OP of FMA:B

There's so much care put into the structure of the series and the specific episodes. Only criticism I have for this episode is how the tone felt all over the place. Gluttony going back and forth between a sinister threat and joke didn't really work for me.

Oh, awesome!! Every time I see square debris now, I wonder if it's him haha. Has he worked on this show outside the OPs? A couple of these recent episodes have had some sequences sorta reminiscent of his style... 🤔

It really shows! I'm frequently blown away by just how many episodes wind up being highlights haha. And I can see where you're coming from on this episode. I liked a lot of what was happening, but it did feel a bit chaotic overall. I'll be interested to return to these episodes once I've completed the series. I don't recall being too put off by Gluttony's tone shifts, but I may have been a bit overwhelmed by the imagery haha.
