Thanks for the question, RON HARRISON!!!

Finishing up our June 2018 Q&A -  had a few questions left over!

Ron's full question goes: Pretend there was an Academy Award for best comedy. Of all comedies ever released, which comedies would be nominated for the one awards show and which comedy would win?

Keep a lookout for our post for July 2018 Q&A where you can leave a question and we'll do a video response.

In the meantime, enjoy!!!

Oh yeah, this was kind of a difficult question. What comedies would you think are oscar worthy?!

Kurt Anderson

Hands down the comedy I’d give the Oscar to is Duck Soup.

I'm going to list my films and THEN watch your video: Wedding Crashers There's Something About Mary This is the End Bridesmaids About a Boy The Royal Tenenbaums Bowfinger Rushmore Groundhog Day Ghostbusters Beverly Hills Cop When Harry Met Sally... Midnight Run A Fish Called Wanda Back to the Future The Breakfast Club The Princess Bride Trading Places Romancing the Stone A Christmas Story Airplane! Those movies are masterpieces. Every single one of these films could have and should have been nominated for Best Picture.

Aww, that's a great choice! I grew up on a lot of Marx Bros., actually. A bit upset with myself for not thinking to name them for this haha. 😅

Aw, damn!! Lot'a good picks here haha, like I said to Kurt, I'm a little cross with myself for not having more names on the top of my head. Must be a long week 😅 haha Bowfinger is definitely a favorite of mine. Fish Called Wanda, Back to the Future, Airplane!, Princess Bride.. guhh. Royal Tenenbaums, A Christmas Story... all stuff I sorta grew up with. I think I'd also throw Clueless into the mix as that's got the Shakespeare edge and also iiiit's pretty great haha. Appreciate the feedback, man! Perhaps we'll consult with you for the next film-related Q&A 😜

I love Clueless. My five best picture noms for 95 are Toy Story, Seven, Babe, Apollo 13 and Braveheart. All the films I listed above made my Top 5 for their respective years.

Jason Dolan

Get Shorty and The American President are two 95 comedies that make my Top 10

2021-07-15 05:34:14 The original "The Producers" with Zero Mostel and a very young Gene Wilder would get my vote, but comedy is a very personal thing. It would be very hard to pick one and please everyone's sensibilities. So many worthy ones: "Some Like it Hot". "This is Spinal Tap", "Monty Python & ...", "M*A*S*H", "It Happened One Night", just to name a few of the ones that I haven't noticed in the previous comments. Also the work of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton should probably be appreciated but I am not familiar enough with their work to comment.

Damn. Those were all '95?! Pretty killer list there, not gonna lie. Definitely 5 that stood the test of time.

Have yet to see The American President, but was raised with Get Shorty. Can't go wrong with Chili Palmer! (...unless, of course, you're watching Be Cool?)

Oh yeah!! The OG Producers is great! Like your picks here, generally. A bit ashamed I forgot to name check Spinal Tap or Monty Python haha (grew up on a lot of Guest and Python along with stuff like Marx Bros and all that). DEFINITELY worth mentioning some Keaton and Chaplin as well. I feel like Modern Times or The Great Dictator could easily be shoe-ins in terms of Chaplin flicks.

Il Postino and Sense and Sensibility took Toy Story and Seven's spots. Il Postino is a good movie, but more for Massimo Troisi's performance and posthumous nomination. Sense and Sensibility was the kind of movie that appealed to older voters. Seven I definitely understand why they passed because it's so bleak but the end statement still sits with me today: Walt Whitman once wrote the world is a fine place and worth fighting for... I agree with the second part. That's pretty much been my mantra for my entire life. Ironically, Toy Story and Seven are my 1-2 for that year.
