The story of fabrics and it's physics in the 3D world is a mess, so is my story with it.
It went from none to 3D mesh integrated to the character, then textures, then a separated object that cover the characters with their own rigged bones.
Through the decades it evolved to the point of perfection thanks to additional bones, morphs, systems that integrates bones of the characters they fit and injection of morphs and dformers/magnets that peaked at V4 clothing system that is my personal favorite.
Meanwhile, of course, other systems and companies continue to develop their own systems that had Dynamic clothing much before V4, something we can see in games and animation, after all they are the pioneers of a lot of stuff and work in 2 fields that only present "perfect results:" games that are real time and movies that have all the money in the world to develop their systems. Safe to say our mid range 3D hobby benefits highly of this references and thanks to that it is affordable to us to enter this world.
Back in our world, Daz presented their Dynamic clothing engine, Poser did that too, but, really, I don't like both of them. They take too long to work and are bugged to hell... also very complicated to deal with. Note that I was never competent enough to understand how Poser works, it is like I've born to make it crash, all my tries were fruitless.
And that's why I had no chance to work with poser Bullet Cloth what looks to be one of the most amazing things I've seen in video... it was my dream to have something integrated to DAZ (*cries in noob), and that is what would make me smile to see one day integrated...
Okay, then Daz introduced the "Venom" clothing for Genesis 1. Fak, that thing sticks to the character and is alive while you're posing, it is scary! Despite of Daz 4.0 being a buggy mess where I couldn't use most of my content because "don't work", the Genesis thing was promising!
But I give up at it because big boobs look like crap when clothed in Genesis so... there you have it.
At that time, V4 was abandoned by Daz, but still being updated by other enthusiast and is, in my opinion, the best go-to-and-be-happy model thanks to guys that create add ons and morphs, special shout out to Xameva and Meipe whose morphs are freaking legendary and allowed to reach the shape of boobs I've been dreaming for years (special note, Meipe-Xameva's perfect V4 is not available to purchase anymore but you can contact the guys and ask for it, pay them to have this AMAZING add on - there is also Lali Bits what is an amazing add on but unfortunately you can't use both at the same time).
Like V4 kept evolving, I wanted to make my boobs look nicer and, clothes didn't fit anymore. :O
In the end, I had to morph clothes to hell until I find a shape or use dformers to make it look like it should - for a long time the clothed boobs of my girls were nicer looking compared to other artists because I was playing with a character and a system that was standard while they had to "wait" for the new character get matured... that happens.
I had experiences with dynamic clothing with Daz tools, Modo, VWD and finally Marvelous Designer - that is a freaking monster in the field. I can tell there is no perfect answer to it... fitting boobs are still a challenge sometimes...
Now, Genesis guys can easily import the "ready to go" simulated clothes in MD - AH DAMN I'M SO ENVIOUS! - While I must go a long trip for the same system to work on my V4 gals the way I want...
Still, the new system developed by Daz for dynamic clothing was getting a lot of adepts, and I'm not an early adopter of anything - normally I get it, test, see it sucks and give up.
After years of effort and tests, I went back 100% to my "faked" clothing after perfecting the dformer adjustments. In my opinion it is "fair looking" and faster to set on new clothes (last picture - Destiny), keeping the features I like they way they are.
The simulated results are not bad, actually they do things that only they can do, still sometimes I don't like the result on MD or VWD (like the penultimate picture - Destiny)... I still have all systems here working, I simply can't stand the time simulating it most of the time. Old hardware? IDK. Probably I don't have the dedication (or hardware) of guys like Beetlebomb that want to do cinema-like-looking renders. I feel I spend time enough on details myself...
Ah, yes, the subject of the post, haha, dforce!
I FUCKING HATE IT!
I don't like iRay too, hahaha.
But @Hoped convinced me to give it another try with a more straight approach, and guess what, it worked (penultimate picture-Destiny)! Or not like in picture 2, haha.
I can tell dforce improved, I admit it, it is water and wine from the first time I used it. But it takes forever for simulating and has a world of improvements be done until it can reach the quality and versatility of MD and even some features of VWD.
At least now I can drop a piece of cloth in the head of my characters without needing to open another program, hahaha.
Probably the scene of Marcella with the skirt in the floor scene wouldn't need to be done in MD. IDK. But I can tell that in MD I edited it until it got the way I wanted it to be.
Can dforce do that?
Nah, it can't.
I was tired to hell when I did this, but it was fun. Good laughs when I did the picture 1, hehe.
I will miss this...
I'm taking a forced vacation of the GTS world to deal with real life things, all for the better.
Preparing something for a last post, see you guys soon.
