Early Access: One Missing (Patreon)

You're hearing it first!  'One Missing' is Track #2 from A Little Magic (out Dec 4th).

Who knows where songs come from, or why... but the inspiration for this one was like a winding road. I had to just follow it and see where it took me. The chorus came first. I was writing about a dear friend from my youth that I always think about when I go back home for the holidays. Then I started writing the rest of the song from her perspective, having lost a parent at a young age, and how she must always feel like there's something missing from the holidays. I cried a lot for her in writing this. So at first, this song was a lot slower and sadder.  As the EP came together and more songs were added to the mix, I wanted this to feel a little bit lighter... happy & sad at the same time. Nostalgic. 

Patryk says the truest lyric I've ever written is in THIS song: "I'm making a mess in the kitchen". We've been talking about designing aprons with those lyrics on them, in case you relate. 

My favorite part of this song? The trumpet. Trumpet playing is a tradition passed down for generations in my family. I woke up to my dad playing trumpet in the living room every single weekend, bright and early. He'd put on an instrumental track and improvise for hours. Just the sound of a trumpet makes years of memories flood into my head and heart.
