In this second videos in a series of collaborative videos with Annette Evans & On Her Own, Annette will walk us through the realities of the age old advice given to so many women - to put your keys between your fingers for self defense.

Is this good advice, or is it even more dangerous to the defender than the attacker?

38 or something sounds safer to me than walking and talking! colt made (wo)men equal sw keeps it that way. keyes still beats nothing but better add some kind of core cylinder to the keyring. tried that on pads. it does makes a punch BY FAR harder. hammerfists or punch with the palms is less risk of injury for an unskilled defender. paper cuts or bloodborn anything seems less of an issue during an ongoing attack to me. 1st thing is to stop an agressor. who cares about papercuts?

Glad to see someone putting the kibosh on this urban legend, been telling people this for years.

Hey Karl. Here I am. I am really a supporter, and frankly I want to give more if I can. I still want more vignettes.

We can direct message about why I wrote that mud tests are kind of dumb or the fact that a real set of brass knuckles are the true ladies best friend...but come on.

My wife and I watched the video together. I have never thought that the keys/fist is a viable technique, but I kept quiet and let the video run. My wife agreed with Annette's well reasoned conclusion.

I've heard this too. Of course, rule 1 is avoid the situation where you have to do it....if possible. If you can't you will probably be close enough to the other person to reach out and touch....but - here's the kicker - instead of putting the keys BETWEEN your fingers, just hold them in your palm pointing downward. Making a proper fist/punch is not as easy as it sounds, but almost everyone can hit with a hammer (strike). So, keys in palm, sticking out from the bottom of your fist, hit with it like a hammer AND aim for soft spots; eyes or just above the eyes (difficult to run/grab if you have blood in your eyes) and throat, doesn't need a big nick to start pumping some red hydraulic fluids...worrying about bloodborne pathogens should be done afterwards - see professionals about it WHEN you're safe ! Otherwise I'd say this was a well thought out video with lots of useful information, and just a bit unusual for the channel :)
