This story was published in Mutant Monthly Jun 2021, with a total of 6 exclusive illustrations. It's a remake of my first story, created in 1995.

Lizzy's hands were shaking as she rummaged through her purse trying to find her keys. Once she had them in her hands it took a moment to get them in the lock. Her excitement was racing through her so bad her whole body was practically vibrating with it. Finally she got the key in and flung the door open. "Jane, Jane, guess what?!"

Jane roused herself from her sprawled out position on the couch. She was tall, and her long curvy legs had been dangling over one of the arm rests. Her hair had looked like a mess when she was laying down, but now as she sat up it fell around her shoulders in voluminous curls. Jane was conventionally pretty and often drew a lot of glances. Even Lizzy sometimes looked at her roommate with a wandering eye. "Wow you're excited. What's going on?"

"I got the job! I, Lizzy, am going to be assistant the fabulous Dr. Eleanor Redfield!" Lizzy nearly screamed as she bounced around their apartment.

"Oh, that's amazing! Congratulations! Honestly though, I had no doubt you'd get the position. You're one of the smartest girls I know!"

Lizzy blushed a little at Jane's compliment. She was pretty much the opposite of Jane in nearly every way when it came to appearances. Jane was tall and curvy while Lizzy was on the shorter side and not very developed yet, a fact that made her look younger than she actually was. But what she lacked in physical development Lizzy more than made up for in smarts. "Thanks," she said. "I can't believe I get to work for one of the most revoluationary scientists when it comes to the phenomenon of mutations! I mean she's probably in the top 5 experts in that field which makes this such a unique and special opportunity."

"I'm so happy for you!" Jane smiled and sprang up off the couch to give her friend a congratulatory hug. This was clearly something important to Lizzy and she wanted nothing more than for her best friend to have all the joys life could bring her. "When do you start?"

"Tomorrow!"

"Oooh that's so exciting!" Jane said. "You know, I actually have a bit of news as well."

Lizzy's eyes widened. "Tell me!"

A sly smile lit up Jane's face. "Well, remember that audition I went to the other day? I got a call back! I have to be at the agency really early tomorrow."

It was Lizzy's turn to give her friend a tight hug. "Oh this really exciting. We're both getting the things we wanted! Tomorrow is gonna be great for both of us!"

Early the next morning Lizzy was practically skipping down the halls of her new office building. She'd dreamed of working here for awhile and she couldn't wait to be let into the inner sanctum where all the innovative research took place. Her employee ID was already in hand ready to scan when she reached the door. Just as she scanned it though the door opened, and a large woman with several rhinoceros features stepped aside to let her pass. Lizzy was more fascinated than she was intimidated by beautiful rhino woman as she slipped on by her.

"Ah, you must be Elizabeth Banner," a voice said from across the room. It belonged to a slender, attractive woman dressed in a lab coat.

Lizzy smiled and extended her hand as she walked over to Dr Redfield. "Yes, but please call me Lizzy. It's a real honor to get to work with you and..."

Dr. Redfield waved her hand to silence her, completely ignoring Lizzy's attempt to shake hands. "Please, there's no need for flattery. I'd prefer to get right to work."

"Oh, sure!"

"Great. Follow me, please." Dr. Redfield led Lizzy over to a glass elevator that descended quickly once inside. Lizzy had never considered this place might have an underground area, but wasn't really surprised that it did. It did work in a lot of secretive, innovative research after all. She did find it odd however that she didn't see anyone else, human or mutant. "Let me guess," Dr. Redfield said. "You're wondering why there are no other researchers here, right?"

Lizzy blushed. Was she that obvious? "Well, yes. I do find it a little odd if I'm being honest."

Dr. Redfield smiled. She liked that Lizzy wasn't afraid to be honest with her. "It's because my research is top secret. More confidential than any other research this university does, and I require absolute secrecy. For that reason my only staff is my concierge. Well, and you."

"Oh, I see," Lizzy nodded. "What made me so special? Surely it wasn't just my grades. Thousands of others have grades as good as mine."

The elevator dinged alerting them that they'd reached the lowest level of the facility and Dr Redfield led them out into a giant lab. "Your grades are impressive, it's true. But it was the way you talked about science and research. There was true passion in your voice, and when you said you'd do anything for it I knew you were the right choice."

Lizzy smiled, glad her enthusiasm had shown through after all. "A-and it's true! I'm ready and willing to do whatever it takes!" She was practically vibrating with excitement again. Excited as she was though, she was also nervous. Something about the way the doctor was acting was putting Lizzy on alert.

"Good," Dr. Redfield said. "Because from this point forward there's no going back." The smile had faded from her face and the most serious look Lizzy had ever seen anyone have descended over it.

"W-what do you mean?" The excitement was draining and the nervousness taking over. Something felt very off.

They kept walking as they spoke. The room was very spacious, nearly as big as a gymnasium. Everything was white like a sterile hospital and the lighting was rather dim, save for a desk in the center that was illuminated by a bright lamp. "Lizzy, surely you've noticed the size of this complex. You've undoubtedly heard rumors about the types of research we do here as well." Their voices echoed a little as they spoke. The only other noise was the gently tapping of their shoes on the floor with each step they took.

Lizzy swallowed the tennis ball that had suddenly formed in her throat. "It's easily twice as big as any other lab."

"My investors see to it that I have the best that money can buy, and every bit of equipment I could possibly need. They know the mutagenic research we do here ensures their bank accounts never run dry."

Lizzy froze in her tracks. "M-mutagenic? You mean for medical use, right?"

“Elizabeth, you are smart enough to have realized who my investors are now and just how dangerous can be." The dim light made Dr. Redfield look a bit frightening, and her tone did nothing to reassure Lizzy.

She didn't know how, but somehow her dream of working for a well reknown scientist suddenly turned into a nightmare in which she was actually aiding in research for the mutant mafia. Anyone knew how dangerous they could be, so for now Lizzy decided to play along with everything. She steeled herself and nodded. "Well, as I said. I am willing to do anything for science!" She said it more as a mantra to herself than she did to convince Dr. Redfield. She hoped the fact that she was internally trembling with fear didn't show.

“I am happy to hear that, because today I will perform the most important experiment of my entire career. Today we will create the ultimate mutagen,” Dr. Redfield cackled just like a villain from an hold time horror movie would. "Finally, after months of searching I was able to find someone with the perfect DNA for this development!" She flipped a switch that illuminated the entire rest of the room.

Lizzy was about to cry out when she saw Jane shackled to a vertical metal stretcher, already sedated and naked."Oh my god, what did you do to her?" She had to stop herself from immediately running over to her friend.

“Oh don't worry, she's just sedated. We managed to gather several physically perfect specimens through a fake casting call for a modeling agency. This girl turned out to be the most compatible with our experiment,” Dr. Redfield had walked over to the desk in the center and was studying the computer screen. "We sent her to a fake photo shoot, and when she arrived she was brought here. And now she is going to be the star of the greatest human experiment in history!"

Lizzy was doing her best not to show how afraid she was. Her best friend was tied up and semi unconscious, on the verge of being the victim of an experiment unknown to anyone. Lizzy's head was spinning, trying to find a solution to the problem. "What will happen to her?" Lizzy asked.

“It's simple,” said the doctor. “I have created a fast acting version of the mutagen that will be injected directly into the subject. The expected result is that our specimen develops superior mutagenic abilities that can be activated of her own free will. "

"You mean like superpowers?" Lizzy asked.

“Just imagine all the strong and powerful soldiers the Mafia could have. Agents that turn mutations into an almost super human ability, superior to anything humans or even normal mutants could do," said the doctor as she input instructions for the terrifying looking mechanical arm hovering over Jane that was equipped with a needle on its end.

"How likely is this to work?" Lizzy asked terrified. Her palms were sweating and she couldn't stop looking back and forth between the doctor and her friend.

"Due to the potency of the mutagen that I will inject? About 24%," the doctor said coldly.

"But that's too low!" Lizzy exclaimed terrified. "She could die!"

The doctor looked up from her computer and stared coldly at Lizzy. "In that case this girl will become one of those who get lost, and we will then have to find the next patient who is so vain to believe a story about being the next super model."

Lizzy knew that her friend was in very real danger. She knew Dr. Redfield had to have a bodyguard somehwere nearby. Probably by the compound gate. No way the mutant mafia was going to leave her unprotected. But that meant the bodyguard was also too far away to be any real threat, at least in the next few minutes. If she could somehow manage to wake Jane up and untie her, between the two of them they could subdue the doctor and perhaps have a chance at escaping. The chances that things would go wrong were very high, but if she didn't at least try her friend would suffer a terrible fate.

"Lizzy," Dr. Redfield said, once again focusing on her computer. "Please connect all the electrodes to our specimen's chest."

Lizzy hurried to the bed where Jane was shackled. This was her chance to try to wake her. As she picked up the electrodes, she saw the switch to operate the shackles on the side of the bed. She spoke in almost a whisper to Jane as she pretended to be putting the electrodes on her friend. "Jane, please wake up!"

Jane slowly opened her eyes, disoriented. "L-Lizzy, what happened, where am I?" She tried to move her hands. "Am I tied up?"

“Keep quiet, there's no time to explain. When I release your shackles we have to run,” Lizzy said as she tried to inconspicuously glance over her shoulder at the doctor. Dr. Redfield was reviewing notes on a clipboard and paying the two girls no mind. "Here we go." Lizzy quickly pressed the release switch. At the same moment Jane's shackles opened up a loud siren began blaring throughout the lab.

“I was wrong about you Miss Elizabeth." There was pure hatred in Dr. Redfield's eyes. "I thought you were smarter and more ambitious than this.” She slammed on a button next to her computer. Immediately the mechanical arm swung and hit both Lizzy and Jane, shoving the needle into both of them. Instead of injecting all of it's contents into just Jane, Dr. Redfield injected half into each of them. The liquid surged through them, sending energy rushing through them.

"L-Lizzy, I… I don't feel… so good." Jane could barely speak as she felt her body fall apart.

"T-they injected us with a special mutagen... our bodies can't..." Lizzy couldn't continue speaking as her body began to separate into pieces. Then suddenly there was a huge burst of light in the lab that shook the entire room.

Dr. Redfield watched as a heap of steam swept into the room. She could make out some small semi-cracked organic pieces bouncing around before they disappeared into the fog. Drat. The two girls had disappeared. She took out a small tape recorder and commented, “Experimentation with the energy mutagen failed. Next time lower the dosage for the next specimen. Try less than half what was used today.”

Minutes later, when the exhaust fans had blown the steam out of the room, Dr. Redfield walked inside with the rhinoceros mutant who was carrying a large bucket and a broom.

"I remind you, doctor, that my duties do not include cleaning," the rhinoceros woman was clearly annoyed.

"Just shut up and help me. You don't want your bosses to listen to my complaints about you, do you?” Dr. Redfield snapped.

Suddenly, the air crackled with electricity. From the corner of her eye Dr. Redfield small something small moving across the room. As she moved closer she could see they were no more than two clitorises. Somehow they had remained perfectly put together, and there was a strange light emitting from them.

"Well this is fascinating," said the doctor as she moved a bit closer. Suddenly, both clits rose into the air and violently collided with each other. Immediately, luminous tissue began to come out of them and in a few seconds, the full body of a voluptuous woman was formed. When the light cleared, in the middle of the room a beautiful girl was standing. Her facial features were a harmonious mix of Lizzy and Jane as was the rest of the woman's body. Her vagina was even crowed by both of the clits that had been boucning around.

The girl looked at herself in the reflection of the false mirror on the laboratory wall.

"Oh god, Lizzy... Jane... who am I?" she said on the verge of tears, then glared at the doctor. "YOU!"

It took a second for Dr. Redfield to realize what had happened, and when realization dawned her eyes widened. "YES! It was a success!” said the doctor. She didn't care that the girl before her was angry. “Complete cell regeneration at unsuspected levels! The true super woman is born. With you we can create a true army of perfect beings."

“NEVER!” the girl yelled. “I will never cooperate with the mob. Neither Lizzy nor Jane would have wanted it."

Dr. Redfield shook her head disapprovingly. “A merger was to be expected to maintain the ideals and principles of its original parts, but it is still a disappointment. Miss Gray, please submit her.”

The rhino woman grabbed the girl's arms, lifting her into the air. Immediately, a new arm came slurping and cracking out of the girl's chest, hitting the giant square in the jaw making her release her grip and stumble backwards. Once the girl was released, the extra arm disappeared inside the girl's body.

"Generation of limbs almost automatically, even greater than that of a goo girl," the doctor exclaimed excitedly.

"You said that this research was confidential, so all of the research and information and samples of that mutagen must be somewhere in this laboratory," said the girl. She squeezed her eyes shut and within seconds there were loud snaps and cracks echoing all through the lab. Her sides pulsed and grew, stretching out and ripping open as three new sets of arms burst out. Between each a new pair of full, voluptuous breasts grew, and just because the energy was so high and the girl couldn't quite control it yet anouther four pairs erupted giving the new mutant twelve breasts in all. She stopped to gasp for breath for a second before making her neck crack and snap to one said so she could push a second head and neck out beside it.

Dr. Redfield watched in pure fascination while the girl mutated right before her eyes. Her fascinated expression turned to one of horror though when each new appendage, nipple, and even the girl's eyes began to glow brightly. Then like lasers, beams began shooting out of her hitting every computer, wall, floor, and even the ceiling. A huge fire erupted in the lab, destroying everything in the entire control room.

"Do you know what you're doing? You're destroying years of work! You asshole," Dr. Redfield said and tried to rush over to save any samples of her mutagen that she possibly could. The samples were now glowing though, almost as if they'd been made unstable by the energy blast. Without another thought the girl turned and flew out of the room, and out of the building itself.

"My notes, my dear mutagen", the doctor raged while she watched as everything was turned to ash. Electricity jumped from one wire to the next, and just as the girl managed to get free the laboratory exploded, destroying the entire floor.

From the sky, the mysterious merged girl watched the building fill with smoke and go up in flames. She knew that the mafia would not forgive this affront, but at least she knew this was the end of Dr. Redfield's evil experiments.

When the fire trucks and police began to arrive, the girl flew off far from the crime scene. She headed for home, the one place she felt she could be safe for a time and get her thoughts in order.

The easiest way in was just fly up to her window and then liquify herself to squeeze through a crack as the side. Once inside she reformed and walked straight into Jane's room to examine herself in the full length mirror. She had features of each of the girls she was made of. Lizzy's height, all of Jane's curves, Lizzy's soft smooth skin, and Jane's delicate features.

“Neither Lizzy nor Jane were mutants or had the gene. That mutagen really was incredible,” she told herself as she looked at her reflection. Despite being in awe of her own figure, she knew that she had a serious problem now that Lizzy and Jane didn't exist, at least not individually.

"Individually," she repeated to herself as an idea came to mind. She once again squeezed her eyes shut and concentrated. Her body began to expand and grow, splitting right down in the middle in a complete and perfect mitosis. One of the girls became Jane, and the other became Lizzy.

"I think this is the best solution today," the two girls said in unison, much to her own surprise. "And I think I have to learn to move each body independently."

The two bodies embraced tightly before twisting and blending into one beautiful body again.

“I will try to keep my facade this way,” she said, looking in the mirror. “Now I will investigate the mafia. I won't let them get away with this."

Meanwhile, across town in the ruins of the destoryed laboratory a group of firefighters emerged. They thought they were safe, but from beneath the rubble there was movement, and electricity was crackling in the warm night air. As they turned, a giant woman dug her way out. Her main body was that of a rhinoceros, but where her head would normally be was the torso of a voluptuous four armed woman. The firefighters couldn't even react before the mutant lunged at them and took them out with one swing of her fists. Standing amidst the debris and blood, Dr. Redfield shook all of her fists furiously. “Whoever you are, I won't let you destroy my life's work! You'll pay for this,” she shouted before losing herself in the depth of the night.
