Are there other/better ways to model curves??? Probably! Nurbs or something? But this is a tutorial all about beveling and proportional editing!

The original intention of the video is kinda wrapped up at around 11 minutes or so, but feel free to stick around if you want to watch me attempt to model a wacky truck.

I always enjoy watch your videos!

Thanks Ian!! i've been experimenting with different ways of modeling complex curves in Blender for a "vessel" i'm working on :D -Cinema and some other apps had a fairly intuitive (to me) nurbs and spline modelling for curves. This helps a lot! It's always great to see you think and work!

Jostein Lie Svalheim

Your modeling tutorials are my safespace! Another amazing video 👌

I bet the toy truck's name is ROSEBUD :-o

Thank you for all your tutorials Ian! It really helps a lot and are a great inspiration. I also love how you placed the mudflaps in front of the tires, like the rebel you are :D

Anonymous

Thanks so much for this! An amazing design and beautiful texturing.

Good stuff Ian! Gotta love that imagination! :P

Great job as usual Ian, and thanks for sharing it with us ! Can't wait to see what will be next :D

Anonymous

Are you going to release how you textured it? I'm sure a lot of us would be interested to know!

I'm always happy when a notification pops up saying that there's a new video. Ian, your teaching style is so informative, inspiring and creative in a uniquely fun and relaxed way. Always be you! :)

Zeke Faust

Your process is just so fascinating to watch in real time.

Would love to watch a tutorial that shows how you modelled that amazing space cargo docking station thing at about 0:31 - I've seen lots of these kind of sprawling structures in your work & I don't know how you do it, or how the hell your scene and PC is able to function with THAT much going on in it!! - The docking station alone must oooozeee polygons.

This was really great. I learned a bunch of techniques and approaches. I'll add that mudflaps go behind wheels, although maybe these trucks spend alot of time in reverse.

I wish patreon didn't filter old comments by default so I don't realize I'm repeating what someone else already pointed out.

Totally looks like something you'd find on "This X does not exist." Actually. I might try to make one from these references. https://www.thisautomobiledoesnotexist.com/.

Very cool!

Currently trying to make a ship, so this is gonna be handy!! thanks Ian

Tolga Katas

teaching by being your self and sharing your ideas, knowledge and experience, I thank you and salute you. It really is the best way to learn. I remember how blenderUI looked so untouchable coming from other 3-D platforms, It is you that took away that complicated UI and made it totally simple! Truly appreciate it. And man! The Lazy tutorials my fav, Big Hit!! keep them coming!

IanHubert

Yeah!! That's the next tutorial! It's surprisingly easy (and *fairly* low poly?), since a lot of it's just about giving the impression of there being a lot of details, as opposed to having to actually model them all, which is rad :D

Phil South

I think I love this video the most of all the ones I’ve seen so far. There’s a real Tales From The Loop feel to this truck and I love that

IanHubert

Unfortunately I didn't film that part (I kind of just kept poking at it without realizing I was doing it)- and I know it's not totally the same, but if you haven't seen it, I covered most of the techniques I used in this video here!

PERFECT

My favorite part of this is the truck bed's shape- having not been able to fit longer pieces of furniture in my car recently.

Hey Ian, when you're modelling the grill and wondering if you can SHIFT + D the part, move it up and then press SHIT + R to repeat those steps and it doesn't work, it actually DOES work if you don't click anywhere with your mouse in between those steps. So you got to select the part, press "SHIFT + D, G, Z, 0.1", press ENTER, and then SHIFT + R. Then, it will repeat all those steps. I think I actually learned this from one of your earlier videos, ha!

Really appreciate these videos. Especially when you mention how you used to do it (eg single points) and what you do now (eg bevels.) Shows your growth and gives my brain permission to be a beginner. You share a lot with Adam Savage in this regard! Also appreciating that you keep listing out the “obvious” steps- seems to take me 3-5 of your videos to grasp and start using each one :-). Question: you do a lot of low poly then “destructively” add details. Have you ever used the multi-resolution modifier/tools? Where you have a low poly base and subsequent levels are built off it? Then you can go back to the low poly and tweak and the higher levels “rebuild” on top. In my head it seems like it’s a great system, but I don’t see many people using it? (I may be looking in the wrong places.)

This was incredible! I learned so much in the first 5 minutes 🤩 Thank you!!!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Anonymous

Super helpful, thank you so much! Would love to see more modeling & texturing, I always learn a ton from how your approach things.

Anonymous

Thank you so much , this video is the best

Anonymous

this was so fun to watch. i actually gasped when i saw the final, textured model

Anonymous

Ian! I think you accidentally put the mud flaps in front of the wheels instead of behind. Thanks for the tutorial!

Anonymous

Just wanna tell you, that I enjoy every video you post. You always give me new ways to work in Blender, while being entertaining!

Hi Ian, I was wondering if you could make a video/tutorial on city depth and mist/fog. Sorry, accidentally deleted the comment.

IanHubert

Hey Curtis! Yeah! I want to make a fog/mist/diffusion tutorial really soon, here! Maybe next? I'm not sure!

Manuel Grewer

Your modeling approach is very enjoyable. I am following along at snail speed and I am still smiling! More of these please :-D

Anonymous

Yes, I would be very interested to see how you composite the mist pass!

Anonymous

Which Ian is the present Ian?! I am so confused! The space-time continuum shatters at least twice in this tutorial. Perhaps thrice?

Anonymous

ou! fun stuff

Anonymous

nice! is there a texturing tutorial i maybe have overseen? thx man
