So, I already posted this over on twitter a few months ago, but I wanted to make sure everyone here saw it too, cause it's a little silly, but I use it all the time (it's what made all of the interiors in the Dynamo Dream teaser).

It's a cube, and every time you duplicate it it generates a new interior (based off of a grid of 40 different rooms). There's a few parallax-type objects that appear in the rooms too, to give a bit of depth (helps a lot if you're doing an animation).

HUGE thanks to Simon Thommes for basically showing me how to do half of this and sending me a kickass white noise node alternative for 2.8 (the only way I could get this to work prior to 2.81) , Fin O'Riordan for giving me some suggestions/insight into 2.8 blender nodes with eevee, and Johnny Valencia for taking and letting me use the initial photo that inspired this thing :)

Here's a breakdown on how to use it (although I think it's pretty self explanatory).

If you click on the GLASS shader, in the shader editor you can adjust the probability that a light will be lit or not (you can animate this for a really easy time-lapse effect!)

If you click "ROOM PRIMARY" you can tweak the window saturation and tint. You can also Tab in there and make the tints whatever you want.

The results are decent- but I've gotten a ton of use out of it for just slapping something into background windows that I want to add a bit of life to.

Right click, save as:
Room Generator

HOLY SHIT

Is there suppose to be audio on the video? If so, there's no audio. If not, I miss your voice.

This is great!

Haha! Yes sorry! I caught that right after posting. I was like, "What are the odds that the ONE time I don't check the video to see if the capture worked it would go wrong?" And I went to check it and... yup. -uploading one with my voice! Should be ready in 10 seconds!

Yeeeeeeeeeeess!!!

Oh my god, Ian. You make the very best assets EVER!

After viewing it again Dynamo Dream teaser i have to say the mixing and mastering of audio is also top notch... so many question in my head which daw..did you use izotope as your mastering plugin....i will silently wait in awe.....

IanHubert

Ah! Oh, no, I'm not particularly good at audio. The audio was done by Impossible Acoustic, who are AMAZING- they're this local Seattle sound team, and they've done nearly everything I've released for the past 8 years. They're just so good at creating audio that 1.) feel tangible, but 2.) actually helps conduct the viewer experience (they're fantastic at deciding what should get sound and what shouldn't).

So friggin cool.

Freaking amazing! Thank you!

This will come in super handy when I finally find the time to build my ultimate dream dystopian chud-infested megalopolis of the future...

Holly heckin frick! Where do you learn all this node stuff! I mean I watch YouTube videos on it but they are just like "plug this node into that and then this to that and you get this" They never tell you what they do. Except blender guru but a lot of his vids are out dated

The value you're giving us probably more than you think Ian! Thank you so much for teaching in such a straightforward manner.

Daaaaamn, that is awesome! I've come to realize that I'm refreshing this page AT LEAST one time a day. Thaaaanks!

Hi ! just a lil dumb question if anyone knows the answer : How would you implement this onto your building? would you use booltool? Or would you just assign the shader to the "Windows" of the block? Thank you so much !

Home button will center node group also, without having any nodes selected. Will save .83 seconds from having to hit "A" key each time, which is almost four years over the span of an average Blender users lifetime.
