I hadn't realized it until I posted the comic, but it's almost been a full year since Layliana's introductory comic - she was way overdue for an appearance! I guess it's kinda tricky coming up with plots for her that don't break the "canon" too hard. I've got a good feel for the kind of world Veronica and Mona live in, so I'd like to keep things from getting too "out there" (which is also why those "What if..." fantasy comics are so fun - I can draw silly ideas and not feel weird about it lol)

That said, a giant 50-ft demon queen does skirt that line pretty closely, but I'm cool with it! I think she brings an interesting character dynamic to the cast :) Thematically, Layla's a witch, so I'm already dipping my toes into the supernatural pool anyway. I just gotta eeeeease into it until it feels right. Veronica still doesn't believe in magic or anything like that - instead, choosing to believe that Layla is just a REALLY skilled chemist. I think if Veronica were to meet Layliana right now, it would go something like this:
