For $12 patrons—I thought you might be interested in this alternate version of the page that I ended up not using. It's a bit of "how the sausage is made"...

Typically I have a pretty good idea of what the page looks like when I do the rough sketch for the whole thing. If I do end up iterating it, I do it while I'm roughing it out, or sometimes when inking. This is one of those rare times when I actually finished the entire page before I decided it wasn't right. Especially when comparing it to the other pages and reading them in sequence, I wasn't really happy with Luke's expression at the bottom. After getting progressively more and more anxious in the previous pages, his expression here just didn't work for me. If anything, he should be even more embarrassed, but I wasn't really sure how I could exaggerate his expression more than what I'd already done, plus I'd already finished the page...

I took a break to go run some errands and realized while I was out riding that it'd be a lot funnier if he was hiding his face entirely. So I got back and redrew him in that position, holding the pillow instead. I think it works a lot better that way, particularly in sequence, so I'm glad I had a bit of time to reflect and come up with a new solution, even if it meant more work. x) So it goes!
