The FN CAL (Carabine Automatique Legere) was Fabrique Nationale's first attempt at a 5.56mm rifle, and it was not successful. They replaced it with the FNC, which saw much wider success. The CAL is quite scarce today, and it was a very cool opportunity to take one out to the range! It performed rather better than I expected, to be honest...

well heat did a not too bad job showing the reloads and movement. I assume ar18 guts, huh. looks cooler than the fnc with the fal like stock.

Actually, I'm not correct either, the bolt is rotating, so that's different from the FAL, but it doesn't have the same setup of like 7 or 8 locking lugs like on a Stoner. Rather it has four, and they're spaced very differently, with two on each side of the bolt head, one in front of the other.
