A visit from BMW Group Classic (Patreon)
Content
You might've seen on YT community tab or Instagram that BMW Group Classic dropped by the dojo today.
Here's some insight from you. Benny, who you probably know from BMW Group Classic videos, and his coworker Mathias came by to hang-out and talk.
He brought this incredible unicorn from their collection, 1 of 1, individual E39 M5 finished in Chrome Shadow paint over Cinnamon interior. Trust me, pictures don't do justice to this speicmen, it's spectacular in person. It was never sold to anyone, it was with BMW from day one as they used it to test their Individual program and drove it 20.000 something kilometers and since then it's been in BMW GC collection.
The paint is mind-blowing, same paint scheme as all E39 M5 rims, the car was painted in several stages, first primer, then black and special silver added in layers and then clear coat. It's not possible to replicate 100% exactly the same finish again if you were to repaint certain parts of it, which shows on the passenger front door which was either repainted due to damage or them just testing, they are not sure. You can't see it on pics but it's a totally different shade in person.
Inside it's like nothing I've seen before, beautiful color of the leather and has all of the options. I had the honor to drive it to our lunch spot and it feels glorious and mint, but happy to report that my 200k km plus M5 doesn't feel tired or worn compared to this one.
He told me so many cool stories behind some concept cars, people within the company and how things worked back in the day and now.
The one I was interested in the most is the Goldfisch - E32 with V16 engine and manual gearbox. If you haven't heard of it, google it and get ready to be amazed. The man behind it and the production V12 M70 engine, is the genius named Adolf Fischer. He created the Goldfisch in secret with only a handful of people in the know and also worked on it in his own home garage. How crazy is that!
They still have it and it's intact, sadly it hasn't been started since the '90s. Things I'd do to get a chance at reviving that car... Would be surreal, but don't think there's even a chance of that ever happening as the approval would have to come from the very top.
Another special car that came up, Paul Rosche's personal company car, E32 with S38 engine (from E34 M5). That thing hasn't been running for decades. There is a possibility for us to collaborate on that one as they'd like to have it running.
They have a ton of cool special cars like this that didn't run in years as they don't have the capacity to drive and service all of them. Their collection is around 1400 BMWs so you can understand why that's the case.
Anyway, I'll be heading to Munich to visit BMW Group Classic hopefully in September, to see some of the cars and discuss further. They are interested in us working together which is just incredible and a huge honor for me. Nothing is set in stone yet, but it'll be something casual and for all enthusiasts.
Benny works with official BMW car clubs and they want to bring the community together and inspire more people to join the clubs, do virtual tours of BMW Group Classic, etc... Some really cool stuff.
All in all, I'll keep you posted and lets see what happens! Today was a really fun day.
