The gratuitous tiktockesque hate for Amber Heard is disturbing, especially as Johnny Depp is also problematic. She may well be the bad actor, but mental illness is being demonized with glee. I think of McClean Hospital’s sincere effort to reduce the stigma around BPD, and the way this undoes their invested effort to help the public shift views. The whole display, while Ukraine suffers and the world confronts a virus and climate catastrophe, and R v Wade increases the canyon between Americans reminds me of the Victorian Age in which people cried over stories of orphan kittens while kicking homeless people starving in the streets. Displacement. Dr. Kirk’s profound identification with male victims is interesting given the statistics of how much more often women are killed by men domestically. Certainly, male victims of domestic abuse have a passionate advocate on this podcast episode.
