I have actively avoided listening to any of the episodes about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. But now I am curious if anyone can convince me why this case is worth our attention. Is this court case anything more than shadenfreude? The only thing I can compare the media's fascination with this case to is everyone's reaction when Pamela Anderson's home was broken into and the honeymoon video she made with Tommy Lee was sold for profit. Everyone took pleasure in their private lives being exploited. I am open to being wrong. Please convince me if you can.

I think that may be part of it, which is really the whole reason that tabloids even have a job. Some people derive joy from the drama. I think this case being public is important to show the rediculous societal stigma towards domestic violence offenders always being male. And that even the nicest appearing person, can suffer from mental heath and can be capable of violence. Majority of society saw: woman claimed violence. Man was accused. We believed. Without any evidence. Those who believe everything they read in the newspaper stands could learn a lot from this, but I do feel terrible for Depp and Heard for having this televised.

I think that in comparison to everything else that is being thrown at us constantly every single day eg; the virus, the war in Ukraine, the coming up elections, the rising cost of everything and no end in site etc., our minds tend to fixate on something that we all can relate to, but at least we may see some sort of resolution in the end.
