ALSO I love that I have a completely new understanding of the Narcissus and Echo myth now. People in our culture (including myself) tend to hear that myth and think “wow what a jerk, he’s so in love with himself he chose his own reflection over someone wanting to be with him. He’s so vain.” But with the understanding of NPD you presented, I can hear it and think “how tragic...he was so caught up in his idealized self that he was unable to face the reality of who he was outside of that reflection. If he stopped looking into that (lake? I forget lol) and stopped seeing his reflection, he would literally cease to exist. He chose to keep that idealized self alive, even if it meant losing out on a real love and relationship with Echo.” Really cool how much difference there is between those two ways of looking at it. Effie Gray on Netflix is a good example of NPD I think. Total lack of insight by main character. This was a great 2 parter! Thank you!
