I am so thankful that the feeling and understanding that I believe I have towards counseling has been put into words. Just as Heidi said, “my spine felt taller” when she was in her internalized oppression class, I feel the same when you talk about really evaluating someone-allowing the opportunity to dig into the real reason for someone’s actions, and exploring the potential oppression that causes issues in a person’s life. Still kind of hard for me to explain, but I’m really glad I’m not alone in this feeling.

I was originally sent to college to become an engineer, which demographically tilted overwhelmingly male, and switched to English literature which was populated mostly by women, almost to the same extent. I sat through at least a couple of classes where the key problem was whiteness and maleness, and at times didn't take it that well. I actually really dug the women's and minorities literature course I took, but I got along with the professor and in general I just dig hearing other people's stories, whatever they may be. Anyhow, I had a lot of thoughts about this episode then eventually just thought "this is so not about you...at all" I guess that's the entire point. I can 100% see how necessary all that would be to be any kind of decent therapist, something I probably don't have the skill set for and never will.
