This is a weird post for me to make! This drawing is something I won't be continuing, I don't think.

It was going to be my first attempt at artwork for prints, but I ran into too many roadblocks along the way, and ultimately realized I had approached it incorrectly, as well as bitten off way more than I could chew haha. I am very fond of the drawing itself, but would rather start fresh, with a better grasp on what I want out of the piece, than try to force this just because I've already started it.

The idea behind this one is that the mare is repairing the terrain around her. Originally I wasn't sure how, but toward the end I decided she'd use healing stones, placing them around the well she's leaning on, and dropping them into river. Some kind of old horse ritual, who knows.

Using stones was actually a huge turning point for the piece, and for me as an artist and a person, believe it or not. I've slowly realized that I'm really attached to rocks, both visually and.. Idunno, there's a lot of symbolism and identity wrapped up in them. It's kind of hard to explain, haha. I'll save that for another post.

Suffice to say, at some point I absolutely had to include rocks in this - I was torn between amber and turquoise, specifically - and now I have a lot of ideas for other paintings that will as well.

Oh well... I think the next attempt will go much better! I might just do a cat, rather than a horse, to make it a bit easier.

Thanks guys ?
