Better Bulges is a set of overrides for official Maxis TS4 clothing for masculine-framed sims. These overrides aim to improve the bulges in clothing bottoms, from shorts to underwear to wetsuits and everything in-between.

I prefer realism in my game, and all bulge overrides are created with this in mind. I try to pay attention to how certain fabrics would behave, while also trying to avoid excessive texture-stretching or too much clipping from oversized meshes.  Some overrides also include alterations to textures, shadow maps, or weight mapping in order to 'fix' issues included in official clothing.

The current version of the mod includes most underwear, swimwear, and Base Game clothing. I will add overrides for clothing from DLC packs over time.

Because this is a set of overrides, Better Bulges can be removed or added to your game at any time. Just drop the file in your /Mods location and you're ready to go!

BETTERBULGES IS AVAILABLE IN THREE VERSIONS:
1) BASE.
Average-sized bulge overrides for over 250 official clothing items.
2) LARGE. Larger-sized bulge overrides for over 60 official/Simdulgence clothing items. Contains 190 average-sized bulge overrides (which will be converted to large over time).
3) LITE. Average-sized bulges overrides for only underwear and swim briefs.

Note: The Large version includes overrides I previously published under the name simdulgence_BetterBulges_AddOnXL.package. If you have this file in your /Mods folder, you can remove it in favor of the Large version in this post.

YOU SHOULD ONLY INSTALL ONE OF THE VERSIONS IN YOUR GAME!

INSTALLATION NOTES:
Any clothing with an override will show a bulge on a feminine-framed sim (unless the game includes a separate female version of the clothing). Depending on the size and shape of the bulge, it can be distorted by the game's automatic clothing conversion process. If you use masculine clothing on feminine sims and this issue bothers you, I suggest you avoid this mod.

Bare-chested full body clothing options include both a bulge and my Standard nipples from Simple Chests 2.0. These overrides are also included in my BetterChests override, so if you install both files and use any tools that identify file conflicts it may flag BetterBulges and BetterChests for containing duplicate files. This is expected behavior.

CHANGELOG:

Added Base and Large overrides for Horse Ranch.
2024-10-03:
Added Base overrides for Outdoor Retreat, Movie Hangout, Nifty Knitting, and Grunge Revival, as well as the remaining clothing items from Spa Day and Simtimates. 2024-08-25:
Added Base overrides for Lovestruck. Full-body outfits that shows the chest (like the firefighter costume) have been edited to include my Standard male nipples (as outlind in the second paragraph of the Installation Notes section above).
2024-08-11:
Removed the optional Large add-on and replaced it with a standalone Large version. I made this change for two reasons: 1) to avoid confusion over what the Large version does, and 2) because eventually all bulges will exist in the Larger version and it won't make sense for it to be an add-on at that point.
The Large version replaces the Large add-on and should be used alone. You should NOT use the Large version and the Base version together. If you were using the Large add-on that I published a few days ago, you should remove it and now use only either the Base file OR the Large file.
Also fixed an Island Living skirt that was showing a wrench icon in CAS.
2024-08-06
: Added overrides for Vampires, Parenthood and Fitness Stuff. Added an optional add-on with larger versions of bulges (see extra notes above, under the Optional Larger Addon header).
2024-07-29:

Absolutely love your content, but there is a file that I can't find. It's the SimpleVaginaMale, I am trying to create a transgender couple but vaginas for male sims dont show up. can you help please lol

simdulgence

Hey! Sorry, I'm in the process of organizing my content/posts with a new masterpost to make it easier to find stuff, so things are a little bit messier than they should be right now. The file you're looking for is here: http://www.simfileshare.net/download/4279735/ It should be the most recent version of the male vagina. Let me know if you encounter any issues!

Are there plans to add options for larger bulges, as some kind of accessory you can turn on/off?

simdulgence

I'm not entirely sure how an accessory bulge would work - I imagine that kind of thing would clip quite a lot. As for larger bulges: I do try to avoid a) clipping with top clothing and b) texture stretching, so both of those would impact how big a bulge gets. But yes, I'm thinking about providing something like that if I can. :)

Blue Nerd

You did make a larger bulges add-on a few years ago, I forget when? Are they included?

simdulgence

No, it's not in the zip file currently. If I recall correctly, it was only the base game jean shorts and three of my own under/swimwear designs, never an expansive amount of clothes. I have been thinking recently about offering other versions of BB, one of which could add larger bulges for a variety of clothing items. It would be like a reboot of my original XL bulge add-on, I just haven't gotten around to it yet (it's taken a bit of a backseat while I've been organizing my files and posts). I don't think there was that much enthusiasm about the idea when I first tried it out, so it's good to know that there's interest in it now!

Is it possible to make a override that works on all CC Clothing tagged masculine?

simdulgence

Not to my knowledge. Each of the overrides in this post is a result of me editing the mesh to create the bulge; the only way I know of to do that for all clothing would be a slider that brought the front of the groin forward to simulate a bulge. This isn't fully ideal for two reasons: 1) The slider would only bring the existing mesh forward, which means bulges could look blocky/bad/not smooth if the underlying mesh isn't set up nicely. 2) The slider would affect all lower clothing, and since the penises are technically clothing, your naked sim would have a strange bulging crotch that would probably distort the penis shape.

Hey! Thanks for the update and adding the option for larger bulges. Just a quick question -- I installed both the Base version and the Large Add-on but am not seeing how to access the large bulges for clothing applied in CAS. How should this manifest?

Blue Nerd

Thank you for updating the Carnivale Shorts! Big Kisses!

Blue Nerd

This is an override which means it automatically applies to all the packs listed above. There may be a few that he hasn't gotten to yet. The bulge is more noticeable on underwear and tight-fit swimwear like speedoes. Pants the bulge is more subtle.

Hey! Thanks for the reply. I'm aware of how the Better Bulges mod works in general, I was referring specifically to the new "AddOnLarge" file that is an optional addition. Simdulgence says: "The add-on is designed to work with the Better Bulges base file; if you use only the add-on, none of the average size bulges from the base file will appear in your game." -- but from what I can see, with both installed, there's only one version of each pants style available (whereas, based on the above quote, I'd expect to see each pants style with an 'average size bulge' and a 'large size bulge' option, or something like that). That's what my question is referring to.

Lho'a

is the AddOnLarge meant to replace the older simdulgence_BetterBulges_AddOnXL file that you made years ago or does it alter different clothing pieces and/or different sizes?

Eddy Rodolfo Gonzalez Perez

Hi, we're looking forward to the better bulges for Lovestruck. Will there be an update?

simdulgence

Sorry for the late reply - I thought I had included a note in my post about this file but I must have removed it while editing the text. Yes, the new Large add-on replaces the old XL file (it contains the same edits that the XL did plus newer edits). I'll add that to the post.

simdulgence

Sorry for any confusion - the Large add-on overrides the same clothing as the base file with a larger version; it does not add a second set of clothing to CAS with a larger bulge. The quote above is saying that if you *only* use the Large add-on, you will see the Large bulge edits I've created. Without the base file, you'll lose all of the extra edits that I created that are of an average size. Base file: 220+ bulge edits Large addon: 40+ larger bulge edits By only using the Large addon you would lose around 180 of the base bulge edits and only see the 40 or so larger ones. I'll edit the language in the post to make this more clear.

simdulgence

Hey! I've begun work on these but run into some issues making the bulge look good for a particular piece of clothing from the pack. But yes, there will be an update with the Lovestruck items and I hope to get it out soon!

simdulgence

Ok, I changed my mind - rather than just editing the post's language, I replaced the Large addon with a standalone Large version. Eventually the Large version will have larger versions of all clothing, so it makes more sense as its own version rather than an add-on (and I wanted to clear up the confusion over what it does). I don't think I've ever been asked for a Large add-on that adds new clothing to CAS (so you have, for example, Base Game jean shorts with an average bulge and Base Game jean shorts with a larger bulge). Is that something you're interested in? It would add a LOT of extra entries to CAS unless you only wanted it for a few specific clothing items.

Blue Nerd

Yeah I was using Base & Large together too, because I thought you had only converted a few things to Large, so it was like an additional copy. Now I understand why I could never find the Larger bulges, Base was overriding it! :P

simdulgence

The original system was set up for PCs to read in alpha order (Addon before Base), but if the files were being read in any other order for any reason then it could have caused problems. Hopefully the new system removes any confusion or issue like that! I'm hoping to get the Large bulges all fully converted sooner than later and then it won't be a question of finding which ones are large or not.

ransom

Hey! Thanks for your replies and consideration. This works. I think you're right that having 2 versions would really inflate the game's clothing selection. I was thinking this might be the case based on your description, and to be honest, I like the idea of having access to both the Base file bulges and the Large bulges (thinking about the fact that not all my sims have the same size penis, for example) -- but I'm not sure how you could go about doing this without duplicating all the lower body clothing items. It would be really interesting if there were some way to categorize penises with size tags, so that the game could dynamically adjust the bulge size based on the selected penis, but I'd assume that's not currently possible (I don't have any experience creating CC, so not sure what tools are available).

simdulgence

I'd love to have some way of making different bulge sizes that didn't inflate the CAS catalogue, but it's tough or impossible. I don't know of any way to have the game present a different bulge based on any other kind of tag or flag, even though I've looked at that kind of thing before (for a piercing system). The "simplest" way would be to have a bulge slider that you could adjust per sim, but unfortunately creating a slider that pulls the crotch forward will cause problems with naked parts, which would also be pulled forward. I've never tried making one, but given the way other body sliders work, I think this would just make all the penises look strange. It is something I think about, just in case I randomly come up with a solution that actually works, but I haven't thought of one yet.

Lyle George

i cant seem to get this mod to work

simdulgence

So none of the bulges are showing up? Which version of the mod do you have installed?

Mitch-Mitch

Hey-o! Love your stuff!! A couple of issues that I've run into with BetterBulges: 1) BetterBulges is hit or miss for me. Maybe they're just supposed to be very subtle? I've seen maybe 1-2 large and 4-6 base bulges in CAS. Most clothes simply don't have them, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Sometimes when I adjust the height/weight of the sim the bulge comes back? Very strange. 2) Sometimes when a newer version of the mod comes out it "breaks" a particular sim (their CAS is infinitely stuck on the loading screen, I can only assume it's because one of their outfits has an item that's been changed?). All other sims/new game CAS works just fine. Any idea how to fix that or is the save file permanently corrupted? Not using any other clothing cc, no ID conflicts.

simdulgence

What do you see in CAS? No bulges on any clothing? I've just tested the Large version in my game and I can see bulges on the clothing (although there is a mix of large/average sizes in there at the moment). Out of curiosity, what do you see when you put on the base game boxer briefs (they have a default maroon/red swatch)?

simdulgence

Hey! Thanks for the compliment - I'm glad you like my content, although I'm sad that BetterBulges isn't quite what you hoped for. What sort of weight/muscle sliders values are you using for the sims you've looked at? I ask because the game's morphs bring out the front of the thighs and stomach and in a number of cases, those morphs hide the bulge (because the game's morphing isn't pulling out the groin at higher slider values). Yeah, my default BB size is designed to be average - maybe subtle is the word for it - and I can see how they don't show as well on larger sims. If you're using very skinny sims, though, I'm surprised if the bulges aren't showing up (and if that's the case, that suggests something else might be going on). Unfortunately I don't think I can do anything about the morphs that are responsible for changing weight and musculature, because they're not part of each clothing item (they're part of a separate series of image maps which are, to my knowledge, somewhat difficult to edit). I'll take a look and see if changing them is something that I can do or not. If not, then the best I can offer is a larger version of BB. I've started a Large version already, and I'm converting bulges to large in groups, so currently there are a small number of Large bulges in the game. Even those will be somewhat "hidden" by the max muscle/weight sliders, though. Re: the second issue, I'm surprised to hear about this - only because nobody has ever reported this problem to me before. Can I ask what steps you're taking that cause the infinite CAS loading screen - are you entering CAS from the main menu and loading a sim from your library, or entering Live mode in a save game and then editing a sim in your world? If it's the second one, are you editing them via the official household management screen (from the main map), or using a mod like MCCC? I can take a look and try to recreate the situation and see if I can reproduce the error. To my knowledge it *shouldn't* cause a problem when clothes get updated with BB, but I'm happy to take a look and see if I can figure out what's going on.

Mitch-Mitch

I really appreciate you looking into this!! :) Gotcha, I did test a bunch of clothing and the weight does indeed negate any additional bulging provided by the mod. I will keep that in mind. Also, the most recent Large version does not include the Base Lovestruck content (just FYI). Regarding the broken saves I am also confused. I have tried entering CAS from the live mode through a dresser interaction, I tried manage worlds -> edit household, I tried with a manual shift-click, all glitch out when the current played household sim is selected. All other sims/New Game CAS are unaffected. Last time this happened when I simply swapped in a new Better Chests version I think. I tried deleting individual mods/check for conflicts with the mod manager and nothing. So far the solution has been to just start a new game. I wish I could give you more diagnostic information to go off of!

simdulgence

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that I'm still testing this to see if I can consistently reproduce the problem and find out what might be causing it. Also, I had intended to make the Lovestruck overrides in the Large version shortly after the Base version, but a few other things came up and I didn't get them done as quickly as intended. I've just added Large versions of the Lovestruck overrides now (along with a few other packs in both Base and Large versions).
