Hello guys!

It's been quite a journey, hasn't it? Over the last three years, we've encountered the unexpected. From the moment the MC discovered a program capable of snooping into the personal lives of everyone on the university campus, nothing was ever the same.

Not that the MC isn't used to surprises. Losing his voice out of nowhere just as he was about to become an adult showed that life is really full of craziness, and everything can change in a matter of seconds.

Pro-tip

If you missed any scenes in Shale Hill Secrets and don't want to replay the entire game to unlock that content, we have two "shortcuts" you can use. Just use one of the available cheat codes:

unlocksex - After using this code, simply restart the desired chapter. With it activated, regardless of your previous choices, all "special" scenes will be activated. Remember that the code works per episode, meaning you first need to select the chapter you want to unlock and then start it.

galleryunlock - This code is more straightforward. Activating it will automatically unlock all special scenes of the game directly in the gallery. But remember: this code will not unlock the scene within the gameplay or in any save, so these scenes will be playable only through the gallery.

And there were many surprises. As he dove headfirst into an investigation, he gradually realized there was a pattern of bizarre events around him. Friends experienced strange interventions in their lives, attempts were made to ruin their futures, teachers displayed odd behavior, and people went missing.

Well, the MC isn't an FBI agent or anything like that, but he had special help to dig deeper into this web of lies, schemes, and manipulation. The deeper you go, the wormhole seems endless. Just seems, because it's time to face the puppet master, the person controlling the whole scheme, and once and for all, determine what your future will be.

Is this the end?

Yes, this is the final episode of Shale Hill Secrets. It's been an incredible journey, but we believe a good story needs a beginning, middle, and end. However, we also know that stories have branches, and that's why the Shale Hill universe doesn't end here.

Three projects that extend the world surrounding this story are already in production. Initially, there will be two epilogues, showing a small continuation for the different possible endings of the game.

Additionally, another project, a larger one, is also in development. This one will bring a slightly different gameplay and will present to you a story that happened a few years before Shale Hill Secrets. Stay tuned for more news in the following months!

Game Install Instructions

IMPORTANT: Do not play previous builds (0.1.x, 0.2.x etc). Always play the latest build available (it contains all the episodes). Since we are constantly improving the engine, executing a previous build after you've run a newer one could corrupt your progress.

Itch App

Please consider installing SHS through the Itch App instead of downloading it using your browser. Itch App will automatically keep the game up-to-date through smaller patches (as Steam does, for example), which comes in handy as the game gets bigger over time. We have a tutorial on how to use it. Click here and check it out.

Having issues with in-game errors?

Try to install the game using the itch app https://itch.io/app instead of downloading it through the browser.

Patreon Authentication

The game requires direct access validation using your Patreon account. Your subscription (gold or more) must be active for the API to recognize it. If you pledged and canceled it right afterward, the validation process could fail. Please re-enable your pledge (you won't be charged again) and try again.

If your browser doesn’t open when clicking “Login with Patreon to play this episode!”, please check your system default browser settings and make sure your preferred browser is selected.

If the authentication process doesn’t work, please make sure to whitelist Shale Hill Secrets in your antivirus/firewall settings. Also, log out and log in from Patreon in your browser. Whitelisting our domain (https://shalehillsecrets.com/) in your browser's ad blocker/security extension can also do the trick.

Windows

Download the game, extract the zipped file to a location of your choice and then run the Shale Hill Secrets executable. The game should open straight away after this. Do not attempt to open the file without extracting it first or you’ll get an error message! Do not mix these files with previous releases! This release contains all the episodes.

macOS

Double click Install Shale Hill Secrets.dmg. Then, in the window that opens, drag and drop the app to the Applications folder.

If the DMG file doesn't open, this means Gatekeeper could have quarantined it. It can be fixed by running this command in Terminal:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine $HOME/Downloads/Install_Shale_Hill_Secrets_v0.17.0.dmg

Android

Your device needs to be able to install APKs outside of the Play Store. If it isn't, you need to enable that option first. Since Android devices have different ways of doing this, depending on the maker and model of your device, we recommend that you search online for instructions on how to do it.

After downloading the file, open the APK and select "update". Don't uninstall the previous version or you might lose your progress.

The current build for Android was made using Beta tools in order to keep the APK under 2GB. Please let us know if it is working well on your device.

Note: If your game is crashing, please check the game's directory and see if there is any DLL file there, such as "execute_shell_simple_ext_x64" or "libdatemodified". If there is, please delete them and relaunch the game.

It was a great episode and I did all the endings which were hot as always! The ending made me curious about a continuation of this particular story or maybe it's just an up for interpretation type of ending but I'm excited regardless for more stories in the shale hill universe!!

I must say the Valerie ending it's insane. It gave me goosebumps. This is the best visual novel I have ever played. Keep up the good work! In the end, I think the SHS female character looks more natural compared to SFL, especially the Asian females.

Potential spoiler here but the end narration with Genevieve was interesting, and confirms a shared universe. Wonder if it's going to be referenced in future projects. Another fantastic game, every time I think it can't get any better it goes to another level.

It’ll patch itself the next time you launch the game (as long as the game has access to the internet). Also, don’t load a save in that scene as the bug will be inside the save.

POST FULL OF SPOILERS A very interesting ending, a pretty classical one with a final public confrontation, turnarounds and flashbacks, then a big happy ending where everybody is freed and comes back to their friends and family. And of course the one thing we probably all anticipated from the beginning which is that the MC eventually recovers his voice in the end game (I must say I didn't think about this when the MC gets out of the hospital with a huge throat soreness, I just thought Rogham tried to strangle him in his sleep or something lol). I also liked that you can choose your life partner at the end, but that this will not override previous choices, for example if you always refused to sleep with Emily and to get back with her you won't be able to in the end. I wonder how many endings there are in total based on the choices made all along the story ? Now I wonder if there will be epilogues ? An open ending is of course a classic but I feel like this ending is a bit incomplete as many questions are left unanswered : Who is the original Silent One ? Where are those ex-soviet scientists and what is their future ? What is this flaw inherent to computer science which RECENTLY was built upon ? And what about the other program which allows to change metadata ? Is it still in the wild, being used by bad guys ? Will the horrible story of Shale Hill and the Silent Brotherhood be revealed to the public ? By the feds or by Leah ? There are sorta built-in epilogues for each major girl of the game kind of with the epilogues of Double Homework but maybe this ending calls for some more epilogues where these questions could be answered. Overall an absolute masterpiece, certainly the greatest Love-Joint VN so far, unforgettable story and characters, extremely high quality visuals, animations and soundtrack, even the app is well thought and has very few bugs. Congratulations guys.
