'cos same.

hello dear patrons! ヽ(*βŒ’β–½βŒ’*)οΎ‰

(*video includes an audio reading of this post)

I'm about to take you on a journey with this video. I ventured outside of my comfort zone with these pieces as I felt the source of stylistic inspiration, Gustav Klimt, deserved as much. it's funny how working on something can change us just as much as we change it. that synergy, that aliveness, that push and pull of problem-solving, is what draws me back to making art again and again.

this month's postcard went through SO MANY changes as I worked on it. I thought I was certain what I wanted it to look like from the outset, but little did I know what was to come...the dress was one of the primary points of contention, starting out short and yellow, then periwinkle and long, then back to yellow at the very last minute with full patterned detail...I felt like I never quite knew where it was going next and that I was merely along for the ride. xD the background and balance of detail also shifted a lot throughout the process. I could sense that things felt "off" at several points and would take a step back to study and reference Klimt's paintings again to understand why he did what he did and why it worked.

the sticker on the other hand was relatively straight forward. I had a strong impression of what I wanted it to look like from the get-go so I just kinda went with it and let it progress naturally.

these are the sketches I had done while brainstorming poses and compositions. I still quite like them and think it'd be interesting to revisit them at a later time.

I used to fight change a lot when making art, if something wasn't progressing the way I wanted it to I would push back and try to force it into a specific shape. however, my perspective has changed with time and experience and I realize that allowing a piece to evolve as you make it, allowing room for surprises, is what makes art fun. your ideas and perceptions are always changing as you live, it only makes sense that your art would reflect that even on a subconscious level. embrace the process, let your art change you. ˗ˏˋ β˜… ΛŽΛŠΛ—

the evolution of the painting really was amazing to see! i can see how the final version was a bold decision that worked out for the better in the end. like sometimes it's ok for that main color to have so much space in a painting... it focuses the piece so much! i think i learned a lot watching it ^o^)
