cheers to a new month and new mail rewards! this month, I wanted to make art in the style of one of my long-time inspirations: Gustav Klimt. ever since I first saw his paintings, I was immediately enthralled by his usage of colorful patterns and textured brushstrokes to capture his subjects with vibrant and measured equanimity. I had a lot of fun experimenting with different techniques in attempts at mimicking his style characterized by bold shapes and stark compositions.

above: I love how Klimt positions his figures in dreamy, imaginative landscapes, so I tried a similar approach. I focused on the overall movement of the painting to add to the circular sensation of the swirl motif. I don't usually gravitate toward yellows, but I think it's such an iconic color in his work so I wanted to use yellows in a way that felt rich yet refreshing. I also leaned into building shapes and volume with individual colorful brush strokes to add life and energy. 

and this month's sticker! I knew from the outset that I wanted the character to have warm vibrant red hair, so I built the piece around that. the shapes and symbols seemed to come quite naturally from that point. I added more warm yellows to compliment the hair and tie it back to the original artistic inspiration of Klimt's bold paintings.
