Hello! ◝(ᵔᵕᵔ)◜

Lately, I've been revisiting the same themes again and again while sketching. It's been nice rediscovering what brings me alive while creating, what I feel best conveys the emotions I want to communicate. I used to see it as a detriment and forced myself to expand my familiarity with a breadth of subjects, that I wasn't a "real" artist unless I could draw a ton of different things. I've noticed though that so many of my favorite creatives tend to explore the same subjects/themes over and over again, as if they're having a conversation with their interests and seeing it in a slightly new way each time. They return to the subject once more in hopes of understanding it better, of finding a new angle from which to appreciate its qualities. I see that connection as a strength, not a weakness, and love how you can feel a creator's personality and story through what they make. I don't think it's necessary or possible, even, to be good at everything. I'm finding the handful of things that I really care about and allowing the scope of my ways of seeing to expand within those bounds.

i absolutely ADORE the nausicaa art...such lovely composition and lighting. seeing your sketchbooks is always a joy! i've been learning lately how important that idea of "it's [not] necessary or possible to be good at everything." i hope you continue to find ways to grow and flourish, and it will be so exciting to see it here on the patreon! keep it up, vicki!!

ahh that makes me so happy, nausicaa is extremely dear to my heart so i'm glad i could capture her well. TwT i recently watched it in theaters and cried during the entire last third of the movie lol. !! yes! i think that idea is so crucial, to live in a way that isn't beholden to expectations, to feel safe to express ourselves truly. we each have something different to offer, it's beautiful to share our specialties and knowledge rather than embody a homogeneous idea of "good". i'm excited to keep exploring my spark and sharing it here, thank you for the encouragement taylor! ^-^/

i was recently going through your older art (i'm so grateful you allow us to go back so far) and it's incredibly fascinating to see things i saw then in your latest art. it's fascinating because i can see what you still like, what attracts you to it, but also your new thoughts about it. i don't know--the change/progression is just amazing to witness and it's actually inspiring me to be more reflective about my art too!

!! reading this comment made me so happy! thank you for taking the time to look through my older stuff, i'm honored. yeah, it's been really cool to actually have a body of work spanning several years that i can look back on now. i can see ways in which i was trying to do something in the past, but didn't quite have the skill to bring it about in the way i wanted. whereas now i have a better idea of how to execute ideas and seeing that improvement has been incredibly satisfying. seeing how other creatives change over time is fascinating to me as well and makes me feel connected to their story in a special way. i encourage reflecting on your own art too, i always think there's so much we can learn from noticing patterns and subconscious messages!
